I was delighted with both the venue and the town of Tomar. I only wish I could come back for the festival in July. The town was already gearing up for it. And the main attraction, Convento do Christo was just fantastic. I thoroughly recommend the detour and the accommodation. And the breakfast buffet was as good as any four star hotel I've stayed at.

Reception on 3rd floor; room on 10th so no interaction with staff/fellow guests.

Lijiang old city is expensive - accommodation and food. It's a city to wander in and get lost, frequently though I always found the hostel again. Two days is enough to see anything worth seeing before joining a bus/group to head for Tiger-Leaping Gorge and Shangra-la and then sechuan.

All rooms have ensuite. It's the first hostel I stayed in that had a PROPER mattress - not just a slab of form on a timber base. So comfortable I decided to stay here a week and chill out. Areas for relaxation very comfortable and well thought out. Meals are available as well as a bar though there's no pressure to eat/drink here. Hui Hui took me to office to book tour and kept me informed of events etc. Very helpful. Staff cheerful and friendly.

This hostel is on the 3rd floor (over a restaurant) and is the largest one I stayed in. Lights in the lounge area and the rooms were so low I needed my headlight to read by. The single/double had windows onto the corridor that HAD to be kept closed. Room was supposed to be aircon but only had a floor fan. Billiard table in front of bar really squashed things. Internet did not work in English. Got a dose of the runs from the dinner. Left luggage cost 3RMB a day. Incorrect information given.

Staff were the best I had on the whole China trip and helped me beyond the call of duty. They arranged a fantastic trip down the Li River to Yangshoe, took me to the best massage place and introduced me to the best street eating place where I returned to try the different foods. Made my time in Guilin great.

No one spoke English or understood my Hostelworld printout. I argued against being charged the full price as I did not have IH card plus my deposit. The manager from the attached cafe had to be consulted to sort this out. No place to relax except the attached cafe - high price and little choice. Public used facilities on 2nd floor. Expensive for what it was though looks great from outside.

I had prebooked and paid a deposit yet this was not recognised and I was even charged more than a man who had done neither: the breakfast was stale bread, jam and cold coffee. I won;t stay here on my return to Tunis
