Varandas do Vidigal Hostel & Lounge

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Positiv: -Excellent location with view of Ipanema and the bay - you will fall asleep hearing the sounds of the ocean -Good opportunity to experience favela life -The hostel is new To have in mind: - Travel costs will add another RS 12 p/d to your budget if you do not want to walk a lot - No cosy restaurants and bars around in Vidigal -The reception staff does not know anything about Rio and will provide only the most basic information -Not much interest in reacting to customer queries

La Posada de Don Simon

Salta, Argentina

Hostels in Salta seem all to be a bit weird. This one is located in a narrow building with some kind of open space/common area at the end. Owners are friendly. Breakfast very basic. Can be loud because room windows face the corridor. Rooms are small and feel crammed. However, overall relaxed athmosphere and I slept quite well. No lockers as far as I can remember.

KulturBerlin Sucre

Sucre, Bolivia

Stayed in a private room in the lovely back garden. The large premise has several gardens and common areas. Also a bar and restaurant. Huge breakfast buffet maintained by the superb staff. Great value for money. Central location. Good vibes and place to meet people. Offers dance shows and live music. Connected to language school.

511 Lima Hostel

Lima, Peru

Located only 5 min walk from the beach and surf. Spacey dorms with good beds. Walls in the dorms for more privacy. Balkony. Owners very friendly and knowledgeable about the city. Bike rental. Nice common areas. Good breakfast. Kitchen a little small but manageable. Met many nice people here.

Makako Chill Out Hostel

Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena is a bit crazy and this hostel does not make a difference. Stayed in the big dorm next to to the common room. A group of Argentinians partied there for several nights and where not stopped by the staff until early morning. The backward located rooms might be better. Random people hang around the hostel day and night; sometimes staying there the whole night. Not clear who works there and who just visits. Location is nice within the old city walls. No lockers I think.

Casa Zen Guesthouse & Yoga Center

Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Great hostel 2 min walk to the beach. Features a yoga deck for your own practice or led classes. Several common areas. Very good breakfast. Good kitchen. Friendly owners. Met many nice people here. Surfboard rental. New buildings. Dorm was hot at night.

Mango is located at the crossroads towards the beach. Both the beach and the ruins can be reached easily by bicycle using the local bikepaths. The hostel is new and impeccably clean. All rooms have a/c. The pool is great for a dip after a hot day. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm with attached bathroom and toilet. Private rooms on the 1st floor. The garden is well done providing shade and places to hang out. Owned by a very friendly and helpful English couple. Cenote diving offered. Excellent place!!

Atillas Getaway

Selcuk, Turkey

A great place to explore the area and get to know other travellers. Common meals and cosy surroundings add to the friendly atmosphere.

Atlantis Hotel Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki, Greece

Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable; room was great value for being in the center od town. Although located at a very busy road (as many hotels are in Thessaloniki) the room was fairly quiet
