Hostal El Papillon, San Gil, Colombia

This is a really nice family run hostel. The couple who owns the hostel is very helpful and have a folder with information and directions to all the mayor activities in the area of San Gil. The hostel is clean, there is a kitchen that you can use, as well as a backyard with hammocks out of the sun. Best of all is that the prices are very reasonable. Would definitely recommend it!

La Brisa Loca, Santa Marta, Colombia

La Brisa Loca is a very nice, big hostel with a lot of facilities, kitchen, indoor pool and roof terras. You can get a dormbed for not a lot of money. The hostel has its own bar which also serves food. Reception is well organised and able to answer all of your questions. In comparision I would say this hostel is similar to for instance Loki hostel (Peru/Bolivia) and Pariwana (Peru). I would recommend it to anyone. Only downside is if your room is adjacent to the bar, than it is kind of loud.

This is a nice hostel with restaurant and bar. Huacachina is a small place where most people stay from one or maybe 2 nights. This hostel is perfect in that respect, its clean, have tour services, laundry and you can eat very nice food (big portions) in the hostel restaurant. Would recommend it!

We stayed in this hostel for only 1 night. We were in Rio the week before and to Ilha Grande for a couple of nights (highly recommended btw!). This hostel is located in THE nightlife neighboorhoud of Rio, Lapa. If you are looking for nightlife this hostel is located perfectly at a max 3 min walk. The dorm rooms are however not the best we ve stayed. No windows, so you tend to get a really muff room with 10-12 people in it, despite the airco. Showers and toilets are not to clean and far to few!

We stayed in this Hostel for 3 nights and liked it very much. It is just one block away from the slightly busier streets where all the restaurants are located and only a max. 5 min walk to the beach and the main pier where the ferry and most tours leave from. We stayed in a private 2 person room with single beds which was quite spacious, had airconditioning and even a small refrigerator. Atmosphere was very nice even though we were not there in the high season! We would go here again!.
