Very cheap and excellent location, but the rooms are tiny (the 9 bedroom room was smaller than what I would expect a 2 person room to be) and the shower facilities were dirty and inconvenient to use. An good choice for people on a budget who aren't picky where they stay.
A decent location near a supermarket and the free shuttle bus to Jackson town centre. Daily room cleaning, swipe card secure rooms. No free wi-fi or breakfast offered (unlike every other motel we stayed in) and staff knew very little about the area or taxi services. We went to the local K-Mart and Albertsons and used their free internet instead.
A reasonable location near market street, surrounded by good, cheap places to eat and drink. Close to the cable cars and buses. Neighbourhood is full of groups of homeless people and alcoholics unfortunately, who can sometimes get a bit aggressive. Hotel staffed by friendly people, but feels musty and in need of renovation. We stayed in an economy room and the shared bathroom was very far away in the opposite corner of the building. Free breakfast was lacking, just pastries and mini muffins.
Right next to Venice beach (and all the homeless people that sleep there), above a reasonably good bar/restaurant, but very far from the centre of LA. Expect a 1.5 - 2 hour multiple bus journey to get to Hollywood Boulevard. 24 hour, friendly staff and a good size kitchen.
Great location and nice staff. Good kitchen facilities (including pancake breakfast), if a little cramped. Internet was very slow, but free. A typical backpackers 'party' hostel, but cheap for Las Vegas. Lots of organised clubbing events if that's your thing.
More than I expected from a motel. The room was large and well equipped, the bed was the best we had in any hotel in our 2 month trip and the bathroom facilities were faultless. Tours to the Grand and Antelope Canyons will pick up from the hotel next door so the location is ideal for tours, the surrounding area also has its highlights such as the Riordan Mansion and Oregano's Pizza Bistro.
Not so much a hostel as living in part of someone's private property, it nonetheless was very nice to stay in. Good internet connection and free to use PC were ideal and there's also a small but well equipped kitchen. Not a bad location but a lot better if you have a car (as is the case for all of Houston unfortunately).
The atmosphere and friendliness at this hostel were exceptional. The staff immediately made us feel welcome and at home and this attitude rubs off on everyone, resulting in one of the friendliest hostels I have ever stayed in. The only downsides were that our bed sheets were covered in hairs (which we spent about 30 mins picking off) and on two occasions there were dead cockroaches in the corridor outside our room. However, after stoically ignoring these things we had a very good stay.
Very nice hostel that feels like it was designed by someone who has a lot of hostelling experience themselves. Good, well-kept facilities. The only downside is that on the weekends they open the place up as a cocktail bar for the public so there is loud music/voices until the early hours of the morning.
Really nice hostel. Feels like a household rather than a business. Exceptional staff members who were very friendly and overall a very good atmosphere. Good kitchen facilities and nice powerful shower downstairs. Not far from a supermarket and a fairly central station on the metro network.
Very good hostel, amazing kitchen, lounge and entertainment area. Friendly staff and excellent location for cheap food while not too many stops from all the sights. Only downside is the loud trains going past outside, but if you've chosen to go hostelling then you are probably prepared to sleep in a noisy environment. Highly recommended!
