My Friends

Florence, Italy

Where do I begin? I arrived at Florence and My Friends being disappointed for not finding the 'dolce vita' that everyone is talking about when it comes to Italy and I found it here thanks to Nadina. Her generosity is just amazing, the hostel is small and perfect unlike the usual clinical style hostels you get in Italy. Her recommendations are spot on and you get a lot from a person who truly loves Florence and love doing what she does. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Riva Hostel Pula

Pula, Croatia

The view from your room is actually the marina and it's amazing the kind of price you pay and the value you are getting. Everything you need as a backpacker is there - great location, walk everywhere, help, tips, bar, drinks, though can't understand why the shower door have to be transparent but that's just a minor bug.

Transylvania Hostel

Cluj Napoca, Romania

I have nothing bad to say but everything good to add, it has a great and big courtyard, big kitchen for cooking and the rooms are great, clean and spacious. Staff are extremely helpful - really nothing to complain at all. Book it!

Kismet Dao Hostel

Brasov, Romania

Spacious, airy, clean, sufficient bathrooms and shower, decent distance to the old town, strong wifi, outdoor area, daytrips and free beers for each night that you stay, free breakfast with the choice of cereals and milk and complete kitchen. Just book it!

The Cozyness Downtown Hostel

Bucharest, Romania

Bucharest as a city has it's not so positive review but this place makes it all the better. It's quiet and tucked away in a neighbour with access to metros. The kitchen is small but plentiful and enough for everyone to cook. Only a handful of washroom but again was good enough and the owners are helpful and resourceful as well. Each bed comes with a small fan which is useful for summer. Overall no complaints - I have enough of hostels in the centre with all the noise and parties

10 Coins Hostel Sofia

Sofia, Bulgaria

It's new and the atmosphere is friendly and you can relax here. Only catch is that you need to take the metro to get down to town but the whole idea is to be away from the noise. There's supermarket and all amenities down the road and people there are very nice.

Hostel Mostel

Sofia, Bulgaria

This place is number one for a reason - everything is well done, organised and they know what a backpacker needs from sufficient showers, toilets to tourist maps, packaged breakfast and dinner to actually spending time one on one with you to go through all the recommendation. The 18 bed dorm wasn't a nightmare at all, no bunk beds but rather an attic with mattress on floor, despite the number, it was very quiet, They had a pub crawling so that other guests won't be disturbed.

Ohrid, Macedonia

There are many options for lake ohrid and if you are on a budget you can get it cheaper than this place but a cheap apartment might not provide you with all the necessary information needed and the brothers (owners) know what a backpackers need. From bus schedule, prices, maps, bicycle, laundry, laundry area, very well equipped kitchen, decent bed, space, lockers, breakfast selections of breads and cereals with milk, coffee and tea all day and it's like they are backpacker themselves.

Berat Backpackers Hostel

Berat, Albania

The thing about hostels and owners and staff is that everyone will get a different experience. It depends on the timing - first night there was only a few guest left and the second night, I was the only one. I was told that the night before there was a huge crowd and it was noisy and happening - if you are into that sort of thing but overall Scotty the owner is pretty fun and he always have really fun staff, people from workaway. It was overall nice and quiet for me and I enjoyed hanging out .

Hostel Zeus

Athens, Greece

Clearer direction: get off at the monastiraki metro, look for the Athinas exit. You will find yourself on the busy Athinas road. Go left and walk down the street. It's a very long and busy street. You will pass by some market which is on the right. Walk until you see this big store called Notos Home on your right. You will see a pet store by the corner, turn left and walk down the lane. The hostel is opposite this big hotel called Fresh Hotel. You won't miss it.

Soho Hostel Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey

Let's be warned - I have stayed in noisy places in Delhi and Bangkok but this takes the cake and cherry with it. The mixed dorm is located on second floor and I can't shut off the window because out of respect for other people. The location is perfect (minutes from Taksim metro), staff are nice and knows everything, toilet is alright though one of the showers ain't that great but the price is great. There's a kitchen and fridge to use. Can cook and smoke there. Shall we get back to the noise?

PP BackPackers

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Since I booked this before I arrived, I cannot attest if it's the cheapest around but the pricing is decent for backpacking and the dorm is alright for the purpose of sleeping and as a base. This area is a backpackers ghetto - you can try hunting around but I do think this place is fine
