Athens House Hostel

Although this hostel is located in Central Athens and is somewhat close to Syntagma Square, it looks rough as all get out. The taxi warned us that the neighborhood was not safe and not to walk around at night. There is a security speaker to get in but we couldn't get in until a resident happened to come through the door. The hostel is located on the top floor of a creepy looking apartment. You get what you pay for.

Our building is secured with cameras and right near the speaker is a ring bell button with a "hotel" label. As we have 24 hours reception, someone is always answering, no matter how late is it.

This hostel was the best I've been to in a while. The location is perfect, its less than five minutes from the courtyard of the Ayasofia and the Blue Mosque; Topkapi Palace; and only a ten minute walk from the Grand Bazaar. There is a travel agency owned by the hostel next door and a roof top restaurant that gives discounts if you stay at the hostel. The staff is very friendly and has 24 hour reception. And there's free wifi and desktops to use.

If you get allocated room 10 ask for a change. The room is not very well insulated, the celling leaks and the carpet is soaked from it. The bed aren't numbered so you might, come back from a day out and see someone has claimed your bed after housekeeping comes in.
