Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat

Amazing hostel! Set in the rainforest close to sepilok orangutan centre, they offer free shuttle service to the orangutans. The dorm is huge, spacious, clean and really comfy beds. The surrounding area is gorgeous and staff really friendly. Staying here means you avoid the travel in from sandakan. I've been travelling for 11 months and this is the best hostel I've stayed in so far!

Great location 10 mins walk from the entrance to the park but that's the only positive. Dorm, cramped, dark and dingy with one toilet between 12. Wifi hardly ever worked. Staff are nice but English is very limited so hard to get any advice from them for further travel. On site restaurant nice food, it shuts at 9 but when I ordered at 8.40 pm I was told it was too late for them to cook and they showed me to the stack of chocolate or biscuits I could buy instead, they were just being lazy.

Really friendly staff and nice room and dorm beds. The hostel is near lots of restaurants. Downside is the wifi is pretty non existent, it's so slow, and tv room is nice but all DVDs are scratched. There is hardly anyone stating there, I've seen two people so that's a plus or con depending on what you are looking for.

You get what you pay for, 4 bucks for a room and it was clean and well located. Downside was it's not an easy place to meet other travellers as no common room and their English speaking ability was not great. Also br careful when you pay the bill, once they short changed me and the second time they "forgot" to take off my deposit. The tuk tuk driver "Bun" is brilliant, highly recommend doing one of his tours, he is fun, great English and tries to ensure you have a great day.

Relatively good location, I stayed in the 6 bed air con dorm and it was clean and fine. Pillows were awful though, lumpy and small. Owner is really friendly and super helpful but he does talk a lot so sometimes hard to get away. They are making more improvements and adding bathrooms so generally it's a good hostel.

A nice little hostel with fantastic security and really friendly and helpful staff. Once I got over the dorm room being like a capsule hotel it was fine, own reading light, lockable draw with power charger and really comfy bed. The staff were soooo nice, if stay here again. It is about a 20 min walk to orchard road,

Great location and nice staff but it's a party hostel so people coming in drunk all night and throwing up in the room! I stayed 5 nights and the bathrooms were never clean when I went to them. If u like a party hostel you'll live this place but otherwise avoid!

Really friendly staff, would definitely recommend this hostel. Lots of facilities, large kitchen, tv room etc. a little bit out of the centre but easy to get into the centre as free bus nearby and train station. Staff were super helpful.

Plus points really close to the metro, staff are friendly, free dinner. Downside really dirty bathrooms in dorms and communal bathrooms, a lot of people staying there are also working there so their stuff is everywhere in the dorms, dinners whist free are really small, the private rooms are really expensive, common area too small for number of people at hostel. You must pay for ALL nights up front on first night which doesn't happen in other hostels. Staff are lovely though.

Fantastic hostel, staff amazing, really helpful, fantastic location, lots of free events and the ones you pay for are great. Private room was like a hotel, really nice. More expensive than normal but worth the extra, I highly recommend.

Good location, nice staff when available, interesting and cool building. On the downside the dorm was dark, noisey, pillows rubbish and one power point between ten of us. I wouldn't stay here again.

There are better hostels, I stayed one night and then moved elsewhere as it lacked any communal atmosphere.

The breakfasts are great, staff super friendly and helpful and the hostel is really centrally located. Issues to address is the toilet door in the dorm does not shut, not even close, I did mention this not nothing was done. Also price of dorm was expensive during Xmas break compared to other dorms. I had to change hostel during my stay and got a nicer hostel for less money.

Friendly staff, good location, nice atmosphere. However dorm a bit cramped and one bathroom for the dorm (6 people) and those in rooms sharing bathroom. Also bathroom a bit dirty at times.

Really convenient for the metro, always plenty showers and toilets free. Only downside is no main common area.
