Home Travellers Motel- St Kilda

Melbourne, Australia

Really great location and the staff are fantastic. It's a good long term place and a good short term place too, I can't recommend it enough. If you've just got to Melbourne you should check this place out as you'll definitely make friends. Rooms are a good price for what you get, cleaned daily and the kitchen is cleaned at least twice a day... possibly more. Free BBQ on a Sunday, what more could you ask for?!

Really amazing hostel. The location is probably the best in St Kilda and the staff are brilliant. The rooms and bathrooms are cleaned every day, the kitchen is good, plenty of fridge and shelf space and it's normally easy to find a time to cook. This is the most social hostel I've ever stayed in, there's always something happening but it always ends at 11pm which means you can get to sleep if you want! Anyone coming to Melbourne, long or short term should definitely stay here! Rob

Really great place. Just started and they really seem to know what they're doing and want you to have a good time as well. Rooms are super spacious and obviously all of the bathrooms are new and clean. Only think I'd add is lockers in the room to give people total peace of mind otherwise, absolutely fantastic. Location is great for St Kilda, very central!

For the price, this place is fantastic. Amazing central location, working kitchen with tea and coffee, toilets and bathrooms are basic but showers are powerful. Balcony is really nice and the guy who runs it couldn't be more welcoming. Really nice place, would definitely recommend.

Basic place to stay. Lots of the bathrooms weren't working and security in the dorms wasn't brilliant. Kitchen was not too clean, staff didn't seem to care that much about anything apart from getting drunk with each other... which is understandable given where they work. Great party hostel, probably not good for much else. Food in the cafe was cheapish. They had no wifi when we stayed despite us being told they did... they also seemed pretty confused about it when we asked...!

Excellent hostel. We stayed in Christchurch at the end of our New Zealand trip and it was so nice to come to a quiet and safe place right at the end, after a mixture of hostels! The staff were great, very helpful, fairly central and for Christchurch that's pretty hard. Kitchen was a bit small and messy fridges, otherwise, absolutely perfect. So clean, all new beds and very comfy, couldn't ask for a better hostel for the end of trip in NZ.

Amazing Base, one of the good ones. Really central, massive kitchen with lots of space to eat. We booked a 6 bed dorm but were upgraded to a 4 bed so we got the room to ourselves. Wellington is a great city and it was brilliant to have a good place to stay while we were there. Good bathrooms, lots of them, kitchen and fridges fairly decent and pretty clean, staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean and security was great.

Kitchen was pretty small but worked, although the basics were missing, like enough pans and cutlery, and markings on the cookers, it was difficult to know if anything was on! Cooking was a fun experience as a result. Location was a little far from the "centre" of town but Rotorua's not that big. They had a hot pool which we didn't use but looked good. Rooms were clean and warm, staff were helpful although not all the brightest, nearly had some issues with our activities booking. Otherwise great

"Dorms" were tiny, difficult to move around in, let alone pack your bag etc. We stayed in the "flats" with their own kitchen but we didn't use them, they didn't look great. Security was great, staff seemed disinterested, bathrooms were also pretty small and not appealing, although not hugely dirty, just not great. Good place just to sleep for the night which is what we did, couldn't imagine staying there a long time.

Beds are comfy and rooms nice. The owner must be making a mint on the Internet though... ridiculously expensive in comparison to other places. Washing facilities really great and mostly clean. Think kitchen may have given me good poisoning but is mostly ok. Staff not really great, brusque and difficult to get their attention, waited for quite a while at reception a couple of times. And they do make you pay more for later nights... but you don't change rooms. SO STRANGE!

Fantastic hostel. Rooftop terrace is amazing, air conditioning, great security, nice clean beds with a curtain each, plugs and light by your bed and your own personal locker in the room, really great. Staff were helpful and it is maybe a bit pricier than Chungking Mansions etc. but you really are getting what you pay for, great place.

We stayed in a hostel before here which was pretty awful, came here and were so pleased, amazing rooms, massive and very comfy beds, great internet, breakfast made for you and a kitchen you could use if you wanted. Unsure what one would class as a "good" location in Surabaya, is anywhere good?! But it was pretty close to the malls and stuff if you wanted somewhere to hang out. The owner was great, really helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Great end to our trip in Indonesia!

This isn't somewhere to go for a "hostel experience". But the lady who owns and runs it couldn't be nicer and will go completely out of her way to go anything for you, which was really lovely. It's pretty far from anything, except the airport, and the rooms are hot and the mattresses are not great, but like I said, the owner couldn't be nicer. Lots of free food and use of the kitchen etc. too. Great place for a (very) short stay.

Stayed here once and it was great, apart from the barking dogs everything about it is excellent. Booked in a second time on our way back to Kuta and when we arrived they said they'd made an error and didn't have room for us but did at their other hostel. We were more than happy to go there so they took our money and said they'd provide transport for the four of us and all our luggage... which turned out to be two mopeds...! Receptionist wouldn't get us a taxi so we left with our money. Strange!!

Free breakfast, great pool, balconies, great location. The standard rooms only have fans which we found out after we'd arrived, it wasn't clear they didn't have air con! Great place though if you want a semi-hotel experience on a backpacker budget. Beach, bars and malls all very close.

Amazing hostel. Had such a good time here we came back. The owner is pretty particular but that's just because he wants everyone to have a great time, not because of anything else. Roof terrace, close to bars and centre of KL, great security, aircon in the rooms, although getting the remote for that can be a bit difficult. Films and tv shows in the living room. Kitchen has nowhere to cook though, has a kettle and toaster, but no mugs or plates. Need more plug points, otherwise fantastic!

The owner was a bit odd, a good guy but pretty rude for a hostel owner. Lots of sarcastic signs about all the rules etc. "Kitchen" was tiny, showers ok, but also not really great. Owner was obsessed with aircon/his electric bill, which is understandable but also... this is a hostel he's running, you kind of have to let those things go. Location was ok, not great, bit of a walk to the MTR but once you're there, you're sorted. Would recommend but maybe not the uninitiated! B+

Really great place to stay. Helpful staff, great location, nice showers, lockers and secure rooms, place seemed massive and shoes off outside (which some people won't like obviously) but it did keep the place clean. AC was great in the dorm and facilities passable and kept pretty clean. We were here for March full moon party and there was barely anyone in the hostel, it was pretty weird. By the end of the five days we'd been forced to book we were only people staying there at all. We made the booking well in advance and about a month after booking and before it was due they emailed saying they made a mistake on the price and needed to increase it. It was only one night so we agreed but not great form.

This place is great for its location at the bottom of Khaosan although for aircon it's possibly a bit pricey. The fan rooms really were too hot as they were so small, they could probably just aircondition the entire accommodation level and that would sort everything out. Bathrooms and rustic but good showers and nice sink, feels clean although possibly isn't. English of staff isn't great but then why should it be, overall not a bad place for the price and location.

Excellent location, super close to the beach and the partying, couldn't be better, but the bar attached is always a good place to start the night. We met some great people in Nha Trang so it's definitely a good place for that. The staff at the hostel are pretty unfriendly but to be honest, I probably would be if I had to deal with everything they do. Bathroom (yes, just the one) in the 12 person dorm was not great and bath felt like it might collapse at any moment but it's good for the money.

This place is amazing, kind of like a hotel but for the price of a hostel. Some of the rooms facing the sun in the morning can get too hot to sleep in but it just means you get up a little earlier and do more stuff in HCMC. I know everyone's already heard about it but really do keep your wits about you in terms of theft, I was pickpocketed outside the hostel (but don't let that put you off, it happens everywhere). The staff were really amazing, took me to the police station etc. Bathrooms A***.

It really is basic... but it's good for somewhere to stay, but you're pretty much paying a bit too much for what you get. There isn't much water and they seem to turn the electricity off during the day whereas other places had it on all the time, seems uneccessary considering the price. Otherwise it's really great and literally is in the ocean. Beach is a second away.

I think/hope we came on a bad day and got a bad room. Staff weren't paying too much attention but were friendly overall. When we were shown our room we got inside and there was a cockroach on the bed! The person working tried to brush it off the bed... wanting us not to notice haha! It stuck around and wouldn't go away so in the end we had to catch it with our bin and keep it there, not overly pleasant! Also some strange stains on the floor! Great hostel, made by Martin who is as excellent an owner/manager as you could wish for. Very fair, not out to rip you off but just help you have a good time and navigate Phnom Penh, which isn't always totally easy! For the price you pay this place is excellent. There was three of us in a four person room spending £2.60 per night and it's right in the centre of the main bazaar/backpacking district an close to New Delhi train station. It's not super plush and you've just got your room but for that price and location and for a bed (or sofa bed) it's excellent. No problems with the booking or payment either.
