This place goes above and beyond ... from the warm welcome, to the abundant spices in the kitchen, to the extensive social programming (even in the dead season of October), you will enjoy your stay here. Oh yeah, and the beds make it a battle to get up in the morning, as they are that comfortable!

Conveniently located (a block and a half from train/bus station, close to downtown attractions), nice kitchen, cool and friendly staff. Loved my stay and would not hesitate to stay here again when I return to Halifax!

Wi-fi barely usable, though desktop terminals work fine. Dorm room doors need a card lock to open, but staff on duty are the only ones that possess them - very inconvenient when roommates close the door and the person on duty can't be found. Excellent location in Centro Historico, but not the best choice if you are a light sleeper, as nightlife and street noise will keep you up much of the night...

One of the best value hostels in San Telmo ... big kitchen, courtyard with parilla grill, and an interior with a an antique/modern industrial theme, if that makes sense. Put it together with internet that functions well most of the time, and you've got a great base for a long term stay in Buenos Aires!

Excellent location in San Telmo, good wi-fi, and friendly (if disorganized) staff. This property nonetheless falls short of what I would expect from an HI hostel; stained pillowcases, a poorly equipped postage stamp sized kitchen, and general lack of attention to detail (outdated signs advertising hostel prices from 4 years ago [lol inflation] and leaky/broken water faucets are just a few examples) bear this out. Overall, not a bad place to spend a few nights, but I can't recommend it.
Thank you very much for your comment, we are permanently with the details, only that, sometimes crowded and things can not be fixed from day to day, especially to holiday week, it's a shame that you did not mentioned before ( in your long stay) so we can fixed immediately the best on your journey Hostel Inn

Has a hotel feel to it, which can be good or bad depending on your point of view. Killer view towards the lake from the lounge windows, and breakfast was great. One quibble: the key system sounds like a good idea in theory, but if the person is possession leaves the hostel with it in their pocket, you can end getting locked out of your room. Staff has backup keys, but kinda annoying to walk the long distance there and back...
Hi James! Thanks for leaving a review, it helps us improve our service and facilities! Let me tell you that we tried almost all possible systems regarding shared room keys, and they even got lost inside the rooms! We always tell new guests how the system works and try to enforce it on every opportunity. Hopefully this won't stop you from choosing us again in the future ;) Big hug from your friends in La Patagonia!

Clean facilities with toasty warm bathrooms (upstairs at least), fast-wi-fi and a handy location to downtown. Nice staff!

More of a homestay than a traditional hostel, but in a place like Chiloe, you'll want to go with a place like Chiloe Austral Hostel, as the family that runs this cozy house perfectly exemplify the warm hearted nature of the people that live here. This might be different in the high season, but as a late riser, I woke up at 10-11am ... and they still had my breakfast waiting for me. View out the front window from the kitchen and dorm is incredible (sea view) an beds are comfy and warm.

An urban loft style hostel in the midst of Valpo's market district. If you are a foodie, you will love this hostel, as not only will you have tons of fresh food to choose from at your doorstep, but the kitchen in the hostel is one of the best equipped that I've seen in Latin America. Ornately beautiful trim from its former owner graces the walls, comfortable beds in the dorms, and stable and fast w-fi throughout the place. On top of that, they have a relaxing terrace with a pet bunny and a cat!

Amazing house (feels like a proper home) in a quiet neighbourhood in one of the best neighbourhoods in Santiago. Great restaurants, bars, supermarket and stores all within an easy walk, metro access within a 5-7 minute walk. Comfy beds, and hostel activities take place on a semi-regular (make our own empanada night was great fun). Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and would emphatically recommend it to any looking for a social but chill place to stay in the Chilean capital...

Awesome breakfast, nice hot showers, and an awesome kiwi husband/Chilean wife team. Easy walk to bus station, Chinchorro Beach, and restaurants/grocery stores and ATM, though downtown is a 20 minute walk (cabs aren't that expensive though). Great place to base yourself when in Arica!

Very nice staff, comfortable beds and great wi-fi. Unfortunately, the staff's attentiveness with regards to the door (myself and others rang bell multiple times and banged on door for minutes before anyone came) and facility issues (no TP in one of the bathroom stalls at night twice during stay) were consistent problems throughout my time there. Another area for improvement lies with the showers: when you are in the mountains where it gets cold at night, showers should be HOT, not lukewarm.

Excellent location in Miraflores, only a 3 minute walk to Parque Kennedy and 15 minutes to the coast. Comfortable beds and excellent hangout spot on terrace (amazing BBQ dinners on weekends!) with panoramic view of the surrounding cityscape. Showers could be a little hotter, and 2 of the 3 wi-fi routers are unstable, but was able to manage well enough with one of them. Overall, a solid place to base yourself during your stay in Lima!
Thank you for your review. We will definitely take your suggestion into consideration. We hope to welcome you back soon again.

Clean and quiet haven behind a cool little coffee shop in the northern part of downtown Popayan. Stable and fast internet, spacious kitchen (with a inventive flint for the gas stove, saves you from burning your fingers using lighters), and friendly staff. 10/10 would stay again :)

If you're looking for a quiet spot with elegance for only $15/night, Panama Central is a wonderful place to stay. Located in the very safe neighbourhood of El Dorado (one of the major present day Chinatowns in Panama City), you'll have easy access to tons of restaurants (including a 24 hour one and tons of Chinese places), and shops, as well as public transport. The hostel itself is immaculately clean, and looks like a hybrid between a mansion and a bungalow. Feels like home!

If you're looking to have a blast at Jaco Beach, Room2Board is a great place to stay. Located within steps of the beach, a refreshing pool for those not looking to swim in the ocean, surf lessons at reasonable prices, and a bar with a lively party scene, it is awesome for those looking to let their hair down. The location is a bit removed from the centre (5 minute walk) and some of the bar staff can be less than attentive in their jobs, but all things considered, this is a good place to stay.
Thanks for the great review! We love our location too- right on the beach and just a short walk to town - keeps it Pura Vida and a lot quieter at night when you are trying to sleep. Sorry, the bar can get busy at night and sometimes our bar tenders get caught up in the fun. But we are adding more staff to address this. Come back soon.

Great upstart hostel that just opened not too long ago in a place that badly needs them. At the center of everything in San Pedro Town, and owners will socialize with you and take you out to all the hotspots in the area (be sure to play Cards Against Humanity with them ... awesome time!). New features are being added to the rooms on a daily basis, as they are responding actively to traveler needs. An excellent place to stay!

Charming hotel with nice, accommodating staff. Unfortunately, it is located on a busy street, meaning that those in the dorms are exposed to loud traffic for all but the deepest hours of the night. Light sleepers should get a private room away from the street, as ear plugs do not block the noise effectively. That said, the design of the hostel is great, with spacious ensuite bathrooms and a full kitchen, plus a small food menu for those too lazy to cook.
thank you very much for your comments and for your visit to our hostel. Fortunately I have less noise in cars in the city center. Greetings

Feels more like someone's loft than a hostel (good thing) ... centrally located to attractions and transport, chill patio with amazing views. Hot water is a bit limited though, so don't linger in the shower for long...!

Excellent location in Downtown Montreal, great continental breakfast (though the paid version that you can get through their kitchen is even better!) and lightening fast wi-fi, which was refreshing after struggling with poor signals in Western Canada. Staff members are helpful, and the building's a/c was a godsend during the days of my visit when the heat and humidity was off the charts...!

Centrally located, lots of activities, great atmosphere, and very comfortable mattresses. The only gripe I have is regarding the really early close time for the kitchen (9pm) ... most hostels have 11 pm as their close time, which suits me better (and many others), as I tend to have late dinners as a matter of course. Other than that, excellent place to stay!

One of the best hostel breakfasts I've encountered on my travels thus far, very engaged staff, and a killer location. The ensuite bathrooms are an amazing touch, mattresses are super comfy, and the view from the rooftop patio is legendary!

Clean and modern hostel, but it is hobbled by its location well outside the centre. Buses are available though, though it adds an extra element of expense and planning to grocery trips. It does have awesome common room and kitchen facilities, and it is convenient to trail heads for the Whistler Interpretive Forest, so it did prove to be a great stay despite the downsides.

A gem in the midst of Nanaimo's historic downtown. Staff cares about this place a great deal through their detailed tour of the place upon check-in, and the Great Room is incredibly atmospheric (common room + game room +kitchen + dining area all rolled into one). One thing to note: this hostel is in the middle of the entertainment district, so expect lots of noise until 1-2 am on weekends. Other than that: perfect place within easy reach of the harbour and Gabriola/Newcastle Island ferries...!

If you want to be in the heart of the action in Vancouver, HI-Vancouver Central is a quality choice, with a location right in the middle of the Granville Street Entertainment District. Like HI-Vancouver Downtown, they have a breakfast with abundant options, but it lasts an hour longer here. Downsides are the fact that you are in the midst of the bar district (bring earplugs), and the upholstery on the couches in the TV room need cleaning/an overhaul. Overall, HI Central is a solid choice!

When a hostel has its own bar, yet when you can sleep well in the dorms nearby, you know you have a special place on your hands. View at its Tunnel Mountain location is insane (no less than 4-5 peaks in each direction, with Rundle being the most impressive), and inside the hostel, rooms are spotlessly clean and staff super friendly. Restaurant on site great spot for breakfast ... only gripe is that it is slightly out of the center, but you can catch transit from a nearby stop.
Thanks for taking the time to review our hostel, it's much appreciated and really great to hear that you had such a positive experience. Hopefully you saw some wildlife strolling about the property as well? Will pass on your comments to all departments, I'm really impressed with them. We realize that we're located out of town, that's why we provide the bus pass so I hope you took advantage of it. - Kirsten Miffling, AGM

HI-Jasper is a very atmospheric hostel, located on a mountainside about 10 kilometres outside the town. Shuttle is provided only twice a day in the morning and evening ... considering the distant location, adding more shuttle times would be a massive improvement. Virtually everything else is awesome: down to earth staff, cute hostel dog, sweet common area. Just pre plan your grocery and beer/wine shopping before taking the shuttle up, and everything else is gravy!

Great location in Edmonton and a fair price, but more attention to detail with regards to cleanliness is needed ... the floor in the 8 bed dorm was quite dirty even after housekeeping hours, and the 2nd floor bathroom was out of toilet paper on the first night of my stay. Also, the internet was not great, as it was slow and was experiencing problems with disconnects every 2 minutes during the latter part of my stay. Overall, a good place to stay, but there is definitely room for improvement.

The perfect for your explorations of Tofino for budget travelers. Right in town near the docks for boat tours and near grocery stores and restaurants for food, surfing beaches are a quick shuttle ride away. Hostel was spotlessly clean and that view from the dining room ... is just priceless!

Always my default choice when staying in Vancouver, as its in a quiet part of the city, with quick and easy access to shops, restaurants, bars, and a supermarket. The breakfast is one of the most diverse and extensive ones I've ever had in a hostel!

If you're looking to experience the best shopping and nightlife that KL has to offer, then Sunshine BedZ is an excellent choice. Very friendly staff (though one of them is sometimes a little overzealous with regards to first transgressions of rules you weren't aware of) and wifi is excellent. Bring earplugs, as some rooms face a busy street that never gets quiet. Maybe not the best place if you're introverted and looking for peace and quiet, but if you're a party person, you will love it here!

Though the location is a bit of a jaunt from the established backpacker ghetto in Jakarta, the separation is worth it, as this hideaway from this big, noisy city truly is a hard place to leave. With some of the best in-house I've eaten, extensive movie collection, a GYM, a rooftop patio with a killer view, and blazing fast wifi, this place is well worth the trouble of finding it to stay here!

Spotlessly clean guesthouse with a very engaged owner and staff that are very friendly. While the staff's knowledge of English is limited, the owner is available at any time via phone to answer questions. Though Surabaya is off the beaten track, the owner also does a great job of showing you around the highlights of this city, which is the second largest in Indonesia. As a final point, wi-fi is blazing fast ... downloaded an episode of the Walking Dead in less than 20 minutes!

Great out of the way guesthouse, which will please those who want a more local experience and those who wish to avoid the touts near the beach. If you're looking to be within steps of the action, this is not the best choice, as it is a 15 minute walk through narrow streets. The location is worth it in my eyes though, due to the quiet at night, the divine pool, and the unique "dorms" that are more like a hotel room with a random roommate, making it easy to truly meet new people!

Located in the midst of Chinatown, close to RapidKL LRT and KL Sentral. Very secure at all hours of the day and night, with friendly staff. Great design and clean interior and sheets ... only gripe is that the dorms are up three flights of stairs, but us travelers need a workout every now and again to keep our good looks in check :)

If you don't mind traveling to the beach, Peacock is an excellent place to stay on Koh Lanta! Located over the water in Saladan, the atmosphere is amazing, with ocean-themed art combo-ing with the sloshing of the ocean channel below. A back porch facing onto the channel completes the charms of this place, and if you're really desperate for a swim, but don't have the motivation to hail a tuk-tuk or drive a motorbike down the coast, a small beach with a sandbar island is within a 5 min walk!

For those who have a functional pair of legs, Ao Nang Backpacker's Hostel is an excellent place. The lounge on the deck is great for meeting travelers, and the TV facilities inside comes with cable and movies, alos well-loved by travelers looking to chill. A little overcrowded for the size of the building, which takes its toll on overall cleanliness and the wi-fi signal in the evening (which is unusable at times). All in all though, a good choice for budget travelers looking to enjoy Railay!

Perectly situated in Chinatown, close to the Central Market and the LRT. Very secure, with always-locked front doors (open with doorbell to staff member) and lockers for your belongings. Lounge area is awesome, with cable TV, drinks for purchase, free wi-fi and 24 hour coffee. Design was amazing, from the lobby to the dorms to the bathrooms. Only complaint is that I wish they had an elevator, as I was three floors up! :P
