El Misti Botafogo Hostel e Pousada

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Everything was fine. Staff were really good, and the food is great. Internet is quite slow and sporadic, and sadly, there isn't enough showers and toilets when the place is full, and there are regular queues.

El Misti Botafogo Hostel e Pousada

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Staff were great, and the location and everything else is fine. The hostel breakfast is among the best I had in a few hostels in Rio, and the evening food is great! Sadly the only real downside to this place is the dorms are a little cramped, and the internet isn't so great, but hey, you're in Rio! Get out and about instead of sitting on the internet all day.

Staff were very nice and helpful. Not at all rushing people on checkout, and breakfast was good. The bed was a little bit uncomfortable though, and the Botafogo area isn't quite as exciting as Copacaba or Lapa, but Copacabana beach is a 15 -20 min walk away, and the metro is only a few blocks from the hostel, so it's certainly not too bad, and the price difference is very useful.

Dear Matthew, Thanks a lot for your review! The bed issue was already solved. Next time do not hesitate to inform reception in case of any problem. We are here to help all of our guests 24hs. Botafogo neighbourhood is the most safe, central and with great nightlife in Rio. Regards, Beach Backpackers Hostel

The hostel has a lot to offer, and the staff are great. It sounds stupid, but it seems like it tries to do too much though. Too many social rooms detract from one main hang out area, so the overall atmosphere and social vibe can lack a little. I liked it though, and would recommend it.

Bacoo Hostel

La Paz, Bolivia

I rated the security as poor, though the front door is locked. People from other hostels do enter with guests, and stuff has a nasty habbit of going missing from the dorms. There are lockers available at the reception though, and I strongly suggest using them! Staff I rated as average. Some were amazing, others not so. I guess it is mood dependent. Location is great - close enough to walk to the bus station, but also just a few blocks from the main square, and the `party` hostels....

Hostal Wasi Masi

Sucre, Bolivia

Front door is always locked, and you have a key for it, but no lockers in the rooms. I had a problem getting to the hsotel for the night of my reservation, as there were road blocks preventing buses from going into Sucre. I emailed the hostel to try and shift my booking, but did not get a reply. When I turned up the next day, I had to pay the full price.

Hostel Mora Mendoza

Mendoza, Argentina

The breakfast was amazing. Pancakes and scrambled eggs, and plenty of it! Free wine tasting on some evenings, and plenty going on.

A la Gurda Hostel Tucuman

San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina

You cannot fault the staff at this new hostel. It´s just a short way from the main square, and not too far from the bus station. You´ll have a ton of stuff put on a plate for you in an otherwise under-rated city. The surrounding area has plenty to offer, and the staff will help you find your way there cheaply and conveniently. They will also chuck in the occasional BBQ for all and charge next to nothing for drinks etc. Can´t recommend this place enough. Fab.

Che Salguero Youth Hostel

Cordoba, Argentina

Good fun hostel with great and helpful staff. The playstation is an added and unexpected bonus, and the beds are really comfy. You get good cakes for breakfast as well, which is always welcome, especially when you can hav breakfast whenever you wake up, even if it is the afternoon!

Hostel de la Viuda

Punta del Diablo, Uruguay

The hostel was a bit out of the way, but you do get picked up and dropped off at the bus stops, which is very good. It would be a tough slog with a backpack on. It´s a bit of a pain walking to the town, but other than the supermarkets and bus stops, there is little need. The staff keep the place extremely clean and are all lovely, spare for one guy, who is a bit mood dependent, though always does help and give the advice you need. I do recommend this place, but it is crowd dependent

Porto Alegre, Brazil

Perfect for a stop off on your way up, or down. Located very close to the bus station, just 5 mins walk

Hostel Portunhol

Florianopolis, Brazil

It´s not the clean and comfortable kind of place, but with a good crowd, you´ll love it.

Hostel Marimar

Ilha do Mel, Brazil

Very nice staff, and well-run place.

Knock Knock Hostel

Curitiba, Brazil

I really enjoyed my stay here. Fantastic staff and brilliantly clean with spacious dorms and multiple facilities. Best hostel I've stayed in in all of South America. If in Curitiaba, I would not even recommend looking around - stay here! I stayed in the Roma hostel the first night, as it was near the station. Waste of money and not recommended at all.

Dom Hostel

Sao Paulo, Brazil

Nice enough for a stop off, and very close to the metro and bus station is just a couple of stops away. Very convenient. Good staff are happy to advise you.

Mapa da Ilha Hostel

Ilha Grande, Brazil

You kind of love it, but you cannot work out why. The most charismatic hostel I've ever stayed in! Incredibly social too as there really isn't anything else to do. Climbing the hill is a royal pain in the arse though

Comfortable and clean. Friendly English-speaking staff are there to help.
