Zen House is about 15 euros taxi from the central station and there are no visible signs on the doors. We were greeted by the owner who is lovely and always laughing. Key locks to all doors except shared bathrooms and shared areas with the location being about a 15 min walk to the Colosseum (and another 15 min walk to the ancient ruins and war memorial). It was a great price for Rome and a comfortable stay. The only cons were that there was no natural light in our room.
PROS: Amazing swimming pool and lounging area with cute bartender and cheap drinks. Genuinely nice couple who run the hostel and are always available to help with food, quad bikes, maps etc. Spacious room. CONS: Our room was on the bottom behind a villa so it was very dark with no windows other than the doors to the common area. Shower was a little difficult keeping the water contained in the shower and not everywhere on the bathroom floor. Beds were very itchy although we had no symptoms.
Langsters is definitely a hostel you don't sleep in! We stayed over the weekend and the bar downstairs was raging well in to the night so either be out and getting drunk or laying awake on the uncomfortable beds listening to the bar/club downstairs. Also only one bathroom for each floor which meant mornings were a nightmare to try and have a shower. Hot water also runs out after 2 people use it! Not the cleanest hostel either. Only pro was the huge lockers for each person.
Generator Hostels are such big hostels which all have great facilities (comfortable beds and bathrooms in each shared room) that are not always in the best location. This one was right across the main central station and round a couple of corners for the shopping block. Can be quite of a walk to the main hall and Old Town though which isn't the most convenient at night. Bathrooms are tiny even for me similar to Japanese bathrooms. Bar within hostel has happy hour every day and live music.
Best BnB I've stayed at so far during my 6 month Eurotrip! Excellent breakfast in good company, super clean rooms and top notch facilities within a 7 minute walk of the city centre. Great value for the price. Would definitely stay here again.
I met so many great people from all around the world in the hostel bar including italians that I strongly recommend it for solo travelers. I had a female dorm so waiting for the bathroom was my only gripe (as there is no other toilet other than the shared one downstairs in the bar which was not clean). The location is maybe a 10 min walk away from the Duomo and shopping district as well as a short stroll from the central plaza where the nightlife happens which is a must do. Would come back.
We had a private room with ensuite and it was spacious, comfortable and super clean. The only bad feature was that the window looked straight into a brick wall so no natural light in the room. In house laundry coin machines was handy and the bar looked hip although the music was too loud to actually socialise. No utensils in the kitchen and no shared computer in which we could use the internet and they couldn't print out our boarding pass either although they were happy to print the bill!

Shared bathroom but it was spotless every time we needed to use it. NO LIFT and up maybe 4 flights of stairs although both owners husband and wife carried our suitcases up and down which was amazing.
What made this hostel great was the staff. I cannot remember her name but she was so very helpful and gave the best recommendations on what to do, eat and see in Florence I cannot rave enough about her. What I disliked about this hostel was the bathrooms. Very small and cramped and not very clean with the floor being wet most of the time (from the shower).
Been here before and it's always a good time. Do miss Jess though. Great how the whole team lives in the hostel with you and take you out every night for drinks.
Hands down my favourite hostel so far. Great beds with privacy. Enough showers for everybody. Quiet rooms with the exception of others staying in your dorm. MUMMA's cooking is the BOMB! Made some friends for life from the shared dinners!
Stayed only 2 nights but met some great people there who were staying in the same room. Breakfast is good for a hostel with plenty of food. You cant beat the free sangria in the evenings. No wifi in the rooms. Rooms were squashy and sheets need to be put on by patrons which doesnt always happen so the beds arent the cleanest ones around.
The view of the Alhambra from this hostel is simply amazing. I met some wonderful friends there and spent a great night in drinking at the hostel bar. Staff are hit and miss but generally helpful. Only negative was the 2 bathrooms for the entire hostel which meant waiting in the morning for your turn to go to the loo!
The hostel is beautifully redecorated and there is a lift for your luggage. Location is near the Diagonal metro which is great for sightseeing but if looking to go out at night to the beach clubs it is too far to walk. The Estonian girl who took us out on Saturday was genuinely nice! The hostel though caters to over a hundred people with many school groups which makes sleep impossible on the weekends as noise travels on the entire floor and cleaning bathrooms hard to find. Rooms are dark.
If you are looking for a party hostel then look no further. Great staff and free vodka shots EVERY night. Especially Fridays! Free breakfast and dinner with a common room which connects with the kitchen so great for meeting others too even people in groups. Good location maybe a 5-10 minute walk away from the main attractions and the bathrooms are cleaned all the time sometimes twice in a day albeit begrudgingly! The only thing I will complain about is the lack of HOT WATER. All the time.
Pros. Single beds only (no bunk beds!) and 4 woman's dorm available. Big lockers available to everybody and bathroom to every dorm. Decent breakfast with fresh baguettes purchased every morning. Cons. No interaction between travelers with no one inter mingling even at breakfast. A cleaner passed through every day but didn't seem to pass through upstairs through the bedrooms and the bathroom still looked to be in the same state it was in the morning. The bathmats were not replaced either.
It was perfect although boys do smell funky sometimes.
Jetpak is the perfect hostel. It is very clean with comfortable beds and a commonroom which encourages people to socialize. The staff are amazing and always willing to help. Bernard and Julian also make a mean coffee so be sure to ask! It's also in a great location which is safe and close to the nightlife. The train station is a 5-10m walk but located on the U1 line making it quick and easy to change to other tracks. Would be perfect if the cleaning would happen later in the day.
