An amazingly cute hostel with great decoration in each room and hallway. A few minutes walk to the beach and store, but you can even use their bicycles for free! Staff was incredibly nice (book your Cape Reinga stuff with them!) and there were several kitchens to cook. The beds creaked like absolute absolute hell though - please get new beds, Mousetrap! For the rest you're perfect.

Kitchens are big, there's more than enough spaces to lounge around in, kinda lacks atmosphere though 'cause it's so big. Key deposit is WAY too high!

The kitchen is WAY too small and there's quite some noise from the street in the biggest dorm but for the rest it's a very atmospheric hostel with very nice, helpful staff en close to the beaches and the mount itself - totally worth a climb to the top btw!!

The beds are hard as planks and you don't get a good sheet to cover them so everyone 'll end up half-sleeping on the bare mattresses, not very hygienic. Facilities are fine, television has many many movies for a rainy day, but service is not all that. Our booking hadn't come through correctly from Hostelworld and they made us walk back and forth between people and re-explain and re-explain even though it was not our fault and honestly their problem, but once it was all settled they were nice.

Thank you for your feed back we appreciate you have taken the time to review our property. As our hostel has recently opened in December we have brand new beds, we have taken your feedback to the manufacturer and asked if this problem will get better over time and we are happy to report the answer is YES!! All of our beds have mattress protectors on them, however we will look into using two sheets in the future. At the moment we use one bottom sheet and 1 duvet. With regards to the error with your hostelworld booking, we had never come across this problem before and it had us all baffled. We hope you enjoyed your stay here in Rotorua and would love to see you back again. Kind Regards The Team At Rotorua Downtown Backpackers

Great host, not too far from the center and close to supermarkets. Nice rooms and a big kitchen with more than enough space for its guests to cook, unlike some other hostels. Showers switched between hot and cold every two minutes or so though.

Great hostel from which to do the Tongariro Crossing. Incredibly nice host, ask him about stuff to do from Turangi 'cause there's more than you'd think! It's got a load of paintings and drawings and texts all over by all the people that came by, very nice and atmospheric. :)
