Stayed here 5 years ago and again recently because of its great location and the included breakfast and free dinners aren't bad either. One thing I will ask is please please please sort out the squeaky doors!!! In an 8 person dorm sleeping next to the door with it constantly opening and closing throughout the night is painful!!
One of the nicest hostels we stayed in, good common areas, comfy beds and a great restaurant next door that does yummy tapas for dinner.
Really enjoyed our time at this hostel, it is nice how all of the rooms face in to a central courtyard giving everyone an opportunity to meet each other and hang out. Not so good if you want to be in bed before midnight as they pump music out there every night and lots of people hang around drinking so keep that in mind if you want a quiet night. Rooms have FANTASTIC air conditioners - really appreciated that in the intense Cartagena heat! Would be amazing if it had a pool! Staff great.
Great location for sightseeing, close to the Metro which makes it easy to get all around town! Personally I would recommend it over Palermo but depends what you want. Staff were very helpful and gave us lots of information on the city. Bathrooms could be cleaned more regularly. Different areas to hang which was cool although our room was directly above the bar and on karaoke night we were blessed with some "wonderful" voices until after midnight which unfortunately there was no escaping.
When we could finally check-in we were shown to our room & there was broken glass & empty beer bottles everywhere, beds weren't made & toilet had a mountain of used toilet paper so that wasn't the nicest start. Awesome pool/bar area & great menu, most of the staff don't have a clue what is going on because they come & go so quickly. Right on the beach which is perfect but definitely only stay if you want to party which we did but then loved moving to an amazing beach bungalow out of town!
Perfect for spending a few days in Lima. Not far from the water in Miraflores and very easy to catch a bus to downtown Lima (staff helped with bus card and directions). Close by to many local and western restaurants. Rooftop terrace area is nice and a good range of food available from the bar.
Bacoo Hostel has so much potential but is not really executed well. The lady on the front desk was really friendly & helpful however the rest of the staff didn't really have much of a clue. The description for the hostel is incredibly inaccurate - never saw the oxygen bar, jacuzzi was empty & nightly drinking games didn't happen. Food from the bar was horrible - almost unedible! Started in 6 bed new dorm out back which was FREEZING, 4 bed rooms are nice though. COULD be a great hostel!!!
Only two bathrooms containing toilet/shower for the whole hostel - meant some long waits for the bathroom in the morning. Bathrooms were rather dirty and shower pressure was close to the worst we have had in South America. Private room was great value for money though and quite spacious. Staff were very helpful in organising tours to nearby areas. 5-10 minute walk from main plaza.
Great location - exactly across the road from the bus stop which was fantastic after an overnight bus ride from BA! Rooms are incredibly dark and beds were average - could use a renovation but the set up in general is really cool, more like a small resort/motel style property than backpackers which was nice. Pool area was great for relaxing and lots of table/chairs around.
We found this hostel lacked a bit of atmosphere and the building has a sort of clinical feel. That being said - there are upsides to that too, rooms were always really clean and there was a range of activities outside the hostel that the staff helped us particpate in. We did 2 walking tours, went to a football match, pub crawl, tango lesson and arranged buses all through the hostel which makes life super easy! Staff were really friendly and helpful and the tv room downstairs was great.
Alvear hostel is located in an charming old building however this has its downsides as well as the tall ceilings made the building very loud and it appeared there were no noise restrictions as the pool table directly outside our room was being used at 1:30 in the morning which was a bit annoying when we were all trying to sleep. Dorms are large and lovely with the high ceilings and their own balconies. Roof top deck is a nice addition.
San Juan Hostel is located just a short walk from the bus stop and was a great place to stay for our short time in San Juan. The staff were great and made us feel really welcome, they also assisted us planning our trip to Valle de la Luna. They have a fantastic roof top deck & cooked up some great food Overall cleanliness of the place needs some improvement - the dorms & bathrooms could be nicer but it seemed as though they were working on it. If the cleanliness was improved it would be great
Very chilled hostel with lots of areas to relax - makes it hard to leave! The staff were fantastic at organising tours and will do so on your behalf, they were also great at assisting with directions and telling you where to go. Downside was there is only two bathrooms (each one has a toilet and shower combined) and as it is quite a big hostel they really need to add a few more. Powerpoints in the rooms would be great also. Loved the backyard area with hammocks and small pool.
Cute, clean hostel located close by to the main street. Owner Sebastian was very helpful and gave us advice on the local hikes. Fantastic hot showers with lots of pressure - exactly what you need after a big hike! Beds felt slightly damp but all in all a great place to stay!
America del Sur hostel is located up the hill from the main street, a little further away from the main street than other hostels but with a beautiful view (especially at sunset) over the lakes and mountains. There was always multiple staff members available to help and various tours and bus transfers were easily booked at reception. They hold an all you can eat BBQ each night for 90 pesos which was fantastic - nice to have some nutritious cooked vegetables after backpacking for sometime!
Backpackers Kawashkar was one of my favourite hostels in Chile. The owner Omar works hard to ensure you have the best experience, whether that's making sure you do not miss out on breakfast, or preparing you with all you need to hike Torres del Paine. Great hot showers with lots of pressure and plenty of chill out space. Do not expect a sleep-in as you are almost guaranteed someone in your dorm will be getting up at 6am for the bus to Torres del Paine so if that's a problem go the double room
Casa Margouya is perfectly located in Puerto Varas, sandwiched between a chocolate shop, a pizzeria and nearby coffee shop/bar El Barista, another favourite in the town. Beds were comfy, showers were hot and staff friendly.
