We enjoyed our stay in a 1st floor private room with shared bathroom. We had difficulty with the WiFi during our entire time (dropping out, WiFi connected but no access to Internet, etc.) and the staff was less than helpful. On one occasion, the WiFi had been out all night and well into the morning, even after numerous complaints. Finally I had to talk the man at he front desk through resetting the router.
This was our second stay at Umbrella Hostel. This time my wife and I reserved a private room with shared bathroom. It was upstairs, away from the street and front desk noise from our previous stay in the ground-floor 8-person mixed bunk room. The room was great, the owner Val was fantastic, and we wouldn't hesitate to book again.'
Reserved beds in a 4 person bunk room but were given a full bed (2 person) in a 6 person bunk room instead. The weird thing was that the room had 3 full size beds for 3 couples - a bit odd. Fortunately, we were the only ones in the room, but if another one or two couples were there, one of the beds was only a foot away from ours. The storage lockers for our luggage did not lock and the interior door didn't lock. Host Padre was nice, but also was a smoker and came across as a little too friendly.
This was our first stay at Umbrella Hostel and we were in the 8-person mixed bunk room just off the main entrance on the ground floor. The beds were comfortable and shared bathrooms were clean. The kitchen was good and staff were helpful. We had no problems with the WiFi and there is even a computer available for guests. Easy walk to the historic district of the city as well as the Parliamentary Palace. Owner Val was very nice; single girls should be careful with Anthony, a bit of a horn dog.
