We booked 4 beds in a 4-bed dorm and the hostel was nice enough to keep us all in the same room. Bathrooms were clean with hair dryers. Room was small and there were lots of noise from the streets but I guess that is expected of Shanghai. Location is excellent, 2 blocks away from the Bund and 4 blocks from Nanjing Rd and the metro. Also, there's a massage parlor right next door (highly recommended). Staff were nice and helpful. Helped book seats for acrobatic show. Washer/dryer available.

Room was spacious and clean. My only complaint is the lack of wifi in room. But wifi was adequate in the lobby and lounge. Excellent location: right on Old Street with tons of good food and shopping around. Staff here were the best and most helpful. They helped reserve our hostel on the Huangshan summit, booked the bus from Tunxi to Huangshan, and also gave great recommendation on which trail to hike. The lounge has an excellent selection of DVDs to watch.

We booked a 4-bed private for 2 nights but they were out of rooms on the first night. So the 4 of us were placed in a 6-bed room for the 1st night, and then moved to a 4-bed private for the 2nd night. Rooms were clean but had no wi-fi. Location is excellent (5 min from Muslim Quarter). Staff helpful and friendly. Offers tours to Terracotta Warriors, Han Yang Ling, etc at reasonable prices. Be aware that Xian traffic is horrific and catching a cab from the hostel was not easy at all.

I booked a 4-bed dorm room with 3 other friends and the hostel was nice enough to put all 4 of us in the same room as requested. Room was very clean and had excellent wifi. Price was very reasonable. Staff spoke excellent English and was extremely friendly, polite, and helpful (suggested good bike/hike trails, helped reserve tickets for Impression Liusanjie show, etc.) Hair dryer was available. I also liked the extensive selection of movies to choose from in the common lounge.

Among all the hostels I haves stayed at in China so far, Jade Emu by far has the best facilites. My only complaint would be the low water pressure in the showers, but that seems to be a problem throughout the region any way. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Rooms have ample lights and functional TV with DVD player. Bathrooms are well supplied with all the toileteries needed. It even comes with a HAIR DRYER! Heat blankets worked really well. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Mama Naxi`s Guesthouse

Mama Naxi is BY FAR my favorite. First, Mama is the best! She is always there to take care of you. She would hand us fruits, snack, and tea whenever we stop by the hostel. Also, dinner by Mama is a must. For only 25rbm, Mama will cook you a 7-course delicious Naxi dinner and you get to meet other backpackers. Rooms are very cozy with ample supply of toiletries and blanket. Common bathroom was clean. Hot water always available. Staff very helpful (with transportation to TLG, attractions, train...
