L'Etoile Bleue

Bordeaux, France

The location is about a half hour bus ride from downtown Bordeaux, but the bus system is not bad. Buses were frequent and cost less than 2 euro. Good facilities, the pool is nice, but if you're looking for a hostel atmosphere, this is not where you want to stay.

Location is good if you want to go to the beach. Also very close to lots of restaurants and tourist shopping. Very quiet, we didn't see any other travellers. Staff was nice but didn't speak much English, so they weren't able to give us many suggestions for things to do in the area.

Great atmosphere. Lots of other backpackers around. Breakfast was awesome, eggs and waffles. Considering how cheap it is, it's a fantastic hostel. Staff was extremely knowledgable about the area, most of them are from Bulgaria. Location was great. Would definitely go back. We stayed in the big 18 bed dorm which is a loft, and it has a very cool vibe.

Josko you are amazing! We stayed in so many hostels during our trip and this was definitely one of the best. Great vibe and Josko goes out of his way to make sure that every traveller has a great time. If you get a chance to do Josko's day trip to the Plitvice Lakes DO IT!!! One of the best days of our entire trip. The kitchen has everything you need, and if there's something missing, Josko will provide it (including vodka……). Overall, fantastic experience. Would recommend it to anyone!!

Not the best area, but close to the train station. At least a half hour walk to most tourist attractions. Easy to meet other travellers, the pub crawl was fun. The bar is really cool, but there is no kitchen and breakfast isn't included. Staff was helpful, and the hostel was very clean.

Locanda Rocco

Florence, Italy

When you get to the hostel you have to call to be let in. They had overbooked or something, so we actually got upgraded to their hotel around the corner. They made us leave our keys at the front desk when we went out, which we found odd. There wasn't really a secure place to leave valuables. But the location is fantastic and the hotel was clean. Florence is expensive, so for the price, we really couldn't complain about this place.

Hostal Tierramar

Palma de Mallorca, Spain

This hostel is about 15 km outside of the city of Palma, but literally a block away from a beautiful beach. We rented bikes and biked into Palma. There is a bike path all along the water right into the city. It's flat and easy ride, and beautiful definitely recommend! Owners were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good. The bar downstairs wasn't busy, but was cool because locals come in to hang out. Overall, a great, relaxing place to stay.

Probably our favourite hostel of our entire trip. Great location, close to everything. It's small enough that it's easy to meet people, but big enough that there's always something fun happening. Kitchen is awesome if you're looking to cook. The staff live onsite and were so much fun to party with. We made some great friends. James - you are our #1 maintenance guy ;) Fred - you are the front desk all star! Definitely recommend this hostel.
