Birka Hostel, Stockholm, Sweden
7.4
20th Dec 2014

Really good value for money, but with that comes a bit of uncleanliness and a generally sterile atmosphere, kinda like a youth hostel. I stayed in the big room but I've gotta say that I had a really good sleep and the room itself was very impressive with surprisingly large beds. A good bet if you wanna do Stockholm without bankrupting yourself.

Red Emperor Bar&Hostel, Tallinn, Estonia

Probably wins out for atmosphere over anything else. It's simply one of the coolest hostels I've stayed in, though perhaps not quite the cleanest. The staff are just top-notch, so unique. And the bar next door is a perfect place to start (or end) your night...a good way to meet locals too! This hostel will make your stay in Tallinn memorable!

Another excellent Baltic hostel. The owner runs the bobsledding daytrip himself, which I've gotta say was one of the absolute highlights of my life. Perfect location, super hot staff and a cool atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Simply outstanding hostel with awesome (and super cute) staff. They seem to have spared no expense making this hostel the premier hostel in Vilnius. I had a strange night here but that was due to some rowdy room mates, nothing to do with the hostel or staff. WAFFLES FOR BREAKFAST OMG

By Swiss standards, this is a really great hostel. The bar downstairs does good value food (way too many dudes around though, not enough girls) and it's a fairly easy walk from the train station to get there.

Excellent location, close to the main station and the old town. Someone needs to give these people some money cos the hostel is in dire need of an upgrade. No real atmosphere and fairly dirty facilities. Also, the walk up the stairs is an absolute killer, even without luggage.

It's inside the old city walls, so that should warrant a stay in itself. However, it's also a really nice hostel with great staff and decent enough facilities.

The premiere hostel in Sarajevo for very good reason. Excellent location, really helpful and friendly staff, very clean rooms and comfy beds. No breakfast included though and the kitchen is right next to the rooms so can be a bit noisy. No gripes other than that.

Really nice, vibrant hostel in the middle of Zagreb. It's rather large, and I usually prefer small hostels, but this one had a really cool vibe and super nice rooms. They've definitely put a lot of effort into the whole building.

Hi 5 Hostel, Budapest, Hungary
6.9
21st May 2014

A fairly typical hostel for Budapest it seems: run by hedonistic adolescents who are firmly engrained in their own exclusive social clique. If you're not a big drinker and don't like getting wasted on pub crawls every night I'd recommend staying somewhere else. Also, nothing is particularly clean - the smell that assaults you when you come in the gate is akin to rotting animal corpses but thankfully it's only contained to one area. Very, very cheap though. The 2 euro dinners are a nice bonus.

They don't have a lot of competition so they don't put a huge amount of effort in. The staff don't speak very good english but the food in the restaurant downstairs is nice and the location is brilliant. Do yourself a favour though and find it on the map before you arrive. Either that or take a taxi from the train station. The directions they give when you book are so poor it could take a while to find it.

Was the only hostel available for the night we wanted to be in Brighton. Don't be expecting The Ritz, but if you're willing to hike for 30mins from Brighton to Hove then it'll serve you adequately well. Not far from the beach, as the title might suggest.
