Fukuoka Backpackers Hostel

Fukuoka City, Japan

Stayed in a twin room. Beds were comfortable & we had a desk! Showers were clean & had hot water. Staff was helpful, spoke English well & made excellent dumplings for the Tues party! The kitchen has everything: dishes, pans, stove, micro, fridge. Comfy lounge area, wifi worked well. Washing machine & rooftop patio w/ plenty of hangers & racks to hang clothes. Negatives: a bit out of the main area, but can take metro or bus. Also, we noticed MOLD on the bottom of our mattresses. Would stay again

Stayed here for one night in passing. The whole place is very clean and modern, the downstairs cafe is actually kind of "fancy" and hip looking and played good music. We stayed in the 12 person shared room... Beds were very comfortable and each had a privacy curtain which was very nice. Computer area was really nice and a good place to meet others. The cafe was nice to meet others as well. COMPLAINTS: NO SOAP in the bathrooms, gross! No towels either. We wished there was a kitchen.

Guest House KURA

Nagano Snow Monkey Park, Japan

Was a very nice Japanese home type experience, & Marina was SOOOO nice & sweet! Kitchen was WELL equipped & there was a washer/ dryer. Keep in mind you are staying in a Japanese home, so the walls are literally paper doors= not a ton of privacy between neighbors. Location good if you go to Snow Monkey Park or day trip to Nagano or Matsumoto. However, if you want to go to Nagano for a few days in a row, not as convenient. Overall was a wonderful “cultural” experience, and what a WONDERFUL host!

Thank you for staying at Guest House KURA!! During your world trip, we are very happy to having you! And we are very sorry for all the concern about the security of your items and the sound that surround. As for the valuables, we have the security locker, and each rooms can be locked.(sorry, but I think I forgot to tell you how to lock the room...sorry) As your comment, this house was really old type, more than 100 years old, and was renovated in a way that retained the building's Japanese quaint atmosphere. We didn't make a wall instead of the traditional paper doors. We hope the guests can enjoy the atmosphere! Thank you again for staying with us. We enjoyed talking with you!! We also enjoy your world trip blog:D Hope you are enjoying your world trip!! Have a woooonderful experience!! Arigato-!! Marina

Pretty decent hostel. Beds were comfortable & clean, but we had no place to sit in room. Main area was nice to mingle, there was a TV, but was painful to always sit on the hard floor. We paid to rent towels & they were SO SMALL & smelled moldy, ick! Kitchen was VERY small, but there were a few dishes, utensils, & micro. Bathrooms & showers were VERY clean, and had clean furry bathmats. Location was decent, staff was nice, helpful, & spoke decent English. Would probably stay here again.
