Free pickup from train station was great but it was on the premise of using the same rickshaw driver for any other trips, which was at a super inflated price. The room was spacious and relatively clean but the shower was filthy with no hot water. We tried to arrange a train ticket here but they requested 3000 rupees in order to get two tickets and we wouldn't see the tickets until possibly that evening! Very, very pushy owners with over-priced tours. Poor location - 45 minute walk to the ghats.
We were initially shown the view and rooftop restaurant by the manager on arrival, which was nice. We then never saw another person (staff or guests) until check out. The neighbour was conducting building work next to the guesthouse from 10pm to 5am each night. Rooms are in terrible condition. Price was far too much for the off season and facilities. No hot water. Stay a few doors down for half the price.
The roomsare very clean (bathroom did smell of stagnant water). Staff were initially helpful. We then went to stay at the Taj Lake Palace for one night and returned for a further night at the Kesar Palace. Once the staff realised we didn't book our stay through them for the Lake Palace, they were unhelpful and rude, not helping us book travel as promised. Food at the restaurant was very poor. Bags were left in an unlocked room. We just walked in and took them. No one ever on the front desk.
We booked this hostel but were actually given a room at the place next door (mountain view lodge). The room was an amazing brick cabin with open fire, hand made wooden furniture, slate tiled floors and 360 degree views of the mountains. The shower was large and hot. Breakfast was amazing, try the Tibetan bread. The viewpoint is a 10 minute walk. Stay in room 7. One of the best places we've stayed.
I'm not sure how the reviews are so good for this guesthouse. I think they spent all their budget on the outside, which looks great. However, the rooms have paint pealing off the walls, serious cobweb and insect issues and unsafe electric sockets (we had to wiggle the entire light switch for it to work. Beds are incredibly hard even by Nepali standards. Our main issue was with the number of lizards in the room. The place is fill with them and their noise will keep you up.
We had a great 4 night stay here. The two brothers that run this place go out of their way to help, providing free information on all there is to offer in Katmandu and beyond. They even walked us to the tourist bus stop at 6.30am to make sure we got there OK. Breakfast is provided and will keep you going until early afternoon. Excellent location just set back from the busy streets ensuring some peace and quiet. Rooms were clean and water was hot. We would definitely stay again.
