Mbizi Backpackers Lodge

Johannesburg, South Africa

Mbizi is a great spot to hang out in Jo'burg. They have an awesome vibe, whether you're there just to relax, or hit the on site bar. Really good collection of movies, wifi, breakfast, close to the airport, cheat more could you want?! Patrick will help you out with any needs at all as well. Not in the heart of the city, but if that doesn't bother you, then this is the place to stay!

I very much enjoyed my stay at Cardboard Box, so much so that I stayed there 4 times for a total of 10 nights whilst in Namibia. Great vibe, very helpful staff, pancakes included, and a very shirt walk to the main part of the city. Highly reccomended.

Very pleasant stay. Wifi is free but is a bit patchy at times. Close to Powell Street station (for airports and outlying towns) and union square. Fairly easy bus connections to main tourist places. Free luggage storage was a nice touch.

Pension Motu Iti

Very basic pension but very enjoyable. It is one dorm room, with maybe 18 beds, so I think when it's busy it's not so good. Good swimming and some snorkelling from the hostel, with free-to-use kayaks as well. Easy 20-25 minute walk to nice public beach. Drinks at the hostel are cheaper at the Hilton Hotel shop, about a 15 minute walk away, which also has much needed insect repellent!! Downsides: far from a shop for food (restaurant quite expensive), no kitchen, insects.

Nice hostel, right on the lagoon. Not a big beach, although there is a nice beach maybe a 10 minute walk or kayak from the hostel. A few mosquitos around so bring repellent for the nights. Nice to have free kayak use. Really nice garden to relax. Free water from a cooler which is great, and they bring baguettes every morning for breakfast. Close to a shop (100m) which has most food things. They charged me around $15US for a one-way airport pickup.

YHA National Park Backpackers & Climbing Wall

Tongariro National Park, New Zealand

Very good, clean hostel. Staff were happy to help with everything. Tongariro Crossing transfer was $30 return, which i think is standard in the town. 8 bed dorm was a good size, plenty of power supplies, and kept clean by staff each day. Internet at $5 a day, although another guy and myself did manage to connect to a free connection in certain parts of the hostel! Good sized and well-equipped kitchen. Well located, close to foursquare supermarket.

Lodge In The City

Wellington, New Zealand

I may not have had a full judgement as I was only at Lodge in the City for a night. But when I arrived there were a bunch of people just drinking and smoking right at the entrance to the hostel, which was very dirty. It also didn't have any way of keeping non-guests out. The staff member on duty was actually very nice, and the room was nice enough, although quite grubby with thin mattresses (accessed by key card -$5 deposit) Pay an extra $5 for a different hostel in Wellington!

The Dwellington

Wellington, New Zealand

The Dwellington is one of the best hostels I've stayed at! Great staff service, even with late check-in and early check-out. Fantastic new kitchen, with a large inside and outside lounge area. Key-card accessed room which was large and very clean (large dorm). 10 minute walk to city centre, and right next to New World supermarket, so great location.

A basic hostel / hotel in Kissimee area of Orlando. Quite a long way from Orlando itself. Rooms were pretty spacious with one bathroom per dorm which is nice. Good wifi, helpful staff member, nice vibe to the place. Great value if you're willing to be outside of the city (not too far from Disney, but 2-2.5 hours to Universal / i-Drive
