Nice small hostel. Little annoyed that when I got to the hostel there was no one there and no one answering the listed telephone numbers, so I had to leave my bag outside even though it was after 11am, but when I checked in the staff were helpful and friendly. Perfect location in the old town and staff can organise a cheap laundry service.
La Pergola 'B and B' is quite a nice place to stay. It is quite far out of la spezia, taking about 45 mins- 1 hour to get in by bus. The directions of getting the bus are very unclear, so the first night we just caught a €32 taxi. Gary is very helpful and provides map which were very useful. The rooms are spacious and very clean, the upstairs shower being better than downstairs which had no pressure. This can't be called bed and breakfast as 'breakfast' is just little cakes and biscotti.
Not like Kinlay hostel in Galway, lacking atmosphere. There was an incident while I was staying here where a drunk man stumbled into our girls dorm at 6am (not sure why his key worked) and tried to crawl in my bed! Staff were helpful kicking him out though. The roof was also paper thin so upstairs was very noisy. Bathroom floods every time shower is used. Breakfast was average. Quite good location at the edge of the temple bar district.
Very small hostel with not many people staying there so it is lacking atmosphere and a common area. The staff were very helpful though and the rooms were large and clean. It is a bit out of the way, a train is required to get into town.
