Agga Youth Hotel

Yangon, Myanmar
74%

Good location in downtown Yangon, but as the city is so large, most places of interest are still a taxi ride away. The rooms are fairly small, but perfectly adequate, with good a/c, fridge and occasional wifi, although bathroom was poor. Breakfast is pretty poor, fried noodles or fried rice, and our rice was cold. They can arrange taxis to the airport or other destinations for you. We had a room on the 7th floor and despite being on a reasonably noisy street we didn't hear anything at night.

Sahabat Guesthouse

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Well kept guesthouse 10mins walk from Bukit Bintang monorail, and easy access to lots of restaurants and shops. Double rooms are quite small, but the Twin rooms are a good size. Nice breakfast of cereal, porridge and toast, tea, coffee, hot chocolate. Good wifi and air con in the rooms. It takes a little while to get to from KL sentral, but once you are there, its very quiet with good access to lots of things.

JP Mansion

A little further away from the main area than most hostels, but still very easy walking distance to the markets and restaurants. The rooms are nice with aircon and ensuites, and the wifi reaches the rooms on the 1st floor, but not the 2nd. The reception doesn't always seem to be manned, and they half-heartly try to sell you some tours or onward travel, but we found cheaper elsewhere. Not much to do in Krabi apart from markets and restaurants. If you want a beach you need to go to Ao Nang, Raile

The Mad Monkey

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Lively hostel with friendly and helpful reception staff, and a lovely sunset rooftop bar. The rooms can be quite noisy as the doors are very thin so you can hear the restaurant, kitchen and bar which is fine if you want to go out and be social, but not great if you want an early night. Lovely rooms though and great wifi. May be better in rooms on other side of street, away from bar/restaurant. However my experience was of disturbing noise from 6am to 1am, even with earplugs.

Bou Savy Guesthouse

Lovely guesthouse slightly outside of town - 20min walk to centre. Very friendly and helpful staff that can help you book tours and onward travel. Breakfast is one dish and drink from a good selection. Booked our tuk tuk driver and onward bus to Phnom Penh through here as good prices. Lovely big room with ensuite, great shower, fridge and a/c. Great wifi in the restaurant, but couldn't always get it in our room.

Backpackers Garden Hostel

Vientiane, Laos

Fairly basic accommodation - just beds in the room - no other furniture. We got an ensuite room, but this shared open air holes with the shared bathroom so we could hear all the noise. The bathroom door wouldn't shut, and neither would the bathroom window, so it meant we had a lot of mosquito' in our room. Breakfast is good, very helpful and friendly staff but they told us incorrect information regarding the sleeper bus to 4000 islands and sold us a more expensive ticket than elsewhere.

Phongsavanh Resort

Beautiful place, lovely big rooms with TV, ensuite and aircon. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and they serve food and drink all day long, with free tea, coffee and water. They also book tours, buses, and have bikes and motorbikes for hire. Slightly out of town but only 5mins walk, and means it is in a nice and quiet area. Only downside is that the wifi is intermittent and slow when it does work.

Khammany Inn Hostel

We stayed here for 5 nights and found the main receptionist really helpful and friendly. Its more of a young backpacker place, lots of socialising and drinking, and large dorm rooms. The wifi is very good, but the hot water was a little hit and miss. You can choose one item of food and drink for breakfast. A little out of town, but only 10min walk to start of the night market area. They offer lots of tours and onward bus travel as well.

Fantastic hotel - perfect location in the heart of the Old Quarter and easy walking distance to everywhere. The staff are really friendly and helpful and speak excellent English. We stayed 4 nights in a beautiful, quiet room with aircon, fridge and a safe. The breakfast is one of the best we've had in 4 months travelling - cereal, toast, fresh baguette, rice, noodles, fruit, juice, tea, coffee, plus you can order something hot such as eggs or pancakes. We also booked a Sapa trip which was great.

Canh Dieu Hotel

The most friendly, helpful and genuine staff we have come across in 4 months of travelling. Nothing was too much trouble, they went out and bought our train tickets from a ridiculous busy station for no commission, bought a Sim card for us, helped put credit on it, and generally helped with all our queries. Good breakfast (a choice of one drink and one food item from the menu).. Big spacious rooms with aircon, tv and fridge. It can be a little noisy due to the train station but is ok at night.

Good location, 10mins walk to main houses and Japanese Bridge, and very near lots of good restaurants. Very friendly and helpful staff who can help book tours and onwards travel. Excellent wifi in all rooms. The "shared bathroom" rooms are only shared between 2 rooms so were never busy. Nice breakfast - you can choose one drink and one option from the food menu - omelettes, pancakes, fruit salad etc. They also rent bikes for US$1 a day, and offer good value trips.

Very central guesthouse - right in the middle of backpacker area, so very handy for restaurants, tours, agencies etc, and also easy walking distance to the main sights. Despite having such a convenient location, the hostel is very quiet as it is down a narrow alley. The staff are very helpful and can book tours, and help with train and bus journeys. Excellent wifi signal throughout the guesthouse. The beds were a little uncomfy, and very noisy every time you moved. Good aircon and hot water.

Excellent location - very easy to get to from KLIA or LCCT airports. 2 stops on LRT from KL Sentral, then 2 min walk. Very near Chinatown, and 2 mins from train station so easy to get anywhere. Free breakfast is tea/coffee, cornflakes and bread/toast, and satsumas. Very helpful and friendly staff, and good free wifi. There is a communal courtyard which most rooms overlook, so could get noisy, but it was fairly quiet when we stayed. Only 2 toilets and 2 showers but might be more upstairs.

It has everything you need - sheets, towels, breakfast. even if Its pretty small and seemed quite basic with creaky floorboard. We slept very well despite paper thin walls and windows - it seemed to be quiet during the night. There are 3 bathrooms, quite small and basic, but again, everything you need. Breakfast was cereal, toast, packet croissants and muffins, with coffee and juice.
