Our twin room was nice but we were disappointed when we saw that almost every other private room was easily triple the size for only a bit more money. If I came again I would pay extra for the double instead of the twin or just stay in a dorm. The common area was the best we've seen with tons of space, free computers and was really well decorated. The wifi only reached some of the private rooms. There was always a bathroom free but they often got muddy. Well located near nightlife and metro.
We were upgraded to an apartment which was great with good clean facilities (especially the air con!) It was well located and really close to the main metro station. The staff were really nice and friendly and spoke english well. The wifi was bad as not even the simplest web pages would load. Other than that we really enjoyed our time at Hostal Madrid.
The location is great, in the middle of the Albayzin but not up the hill so no hassle with luggage. Relatively close to the Alhambra bus stop. We had a great view out of our double room window. There was a school group booked in at the same time as us which took away from the atmosphere. The wifi was down but it seemed like a one off and they had free access to computers. Great value, would stay again!
There were hairs all over my blanket and a gigantic hairball in our ensuite shower when we arrived which the staff flushed down the toilet for us. However makes you wonder if the bathroom is ever actually cleaned properly... Other than that the room was big and the location was great for sightseeing and restaurants. It is more of a 35 min walk from the station if you have luggage (and it's hot). A taxi though is really quite cheap. Wifi doesn't reach the rooms. The terrace is great.
We changed rooms after the first night from a room with a small window out to the stairwell which was hot to a smaller room with a large window which was much more cooler. We checked in late but the staff still explained everything and told us about places to go etc. Well equipped kitchen, water pressure in the showers, good wifi, great tv! Not that close to the metro but in a safe area. The trendy restaurant area is more around the Picasso museum than around the hostel. Good value.
Beautiful apartment with big rooms in the middle of the trendy restaurant area. Owned by a really friendly Italian family who were very welcoming. The wifi didn't reach our room but was otherwise fast and the breakfast was great. No problems with the shared bathroom which was always clean. Bed super comfy. Highly recommended!
Big room in a good location with lots of nice restaurants close by. The couple who own it are lovely but don't speak too much English. Breakfast was great, the wifi not so great. Only issue was that the shower was mouldy and needed a good clean. Had a bit of an old building smell for those who are sensitive. Bed a tad springy but I've slept on worse.
Nice apartment with spacious rooms located close to the station (with air conditioning!). A bit of a walk to the main sites, but walking through the streets are a site in itself. Near a vapporetto stop if you're willing to fork out for a ticket. Franco was a great host who was really helpful. Good wifi, suggest buying eggs or something extra to go with the breakfast provided. Would definitely come back.
Really cool building for a hostel (UNESCO site) within walking distance of everything. Staff gave us a really good suggestion for dinner. Clean and spacious bathrooms and lots of computers in the common area for free use. Breakfast was included but not the best. The common room was a bit too warm to sit in for too long but otherwise highly recommended.
Vanni was cool and the place is clean and well located near public transport in a nice area of town. The renovations seemed unfinished as it smelt a bit like paint, the common room wasn't furnished properly and our shower head wasn't mounted so you had to hold it. The wifi was also not working. A few finishing touches and it would be excellent and really good value for money.
Staying in the cube house is really cool and pretty well located. The rooms are quite spacious and clean with a decent free breakfast in the morning. There were a lot of big school and work groups so might not be the best place to meet people if you're alone. The place is a bit impersonal and the staff could've been more helpful. Overall it was good but a bit pricey.
We had a really nice stay here. Everything was clean with good shower and bathroom facilities. Had good wifi and there was plenty to eat for breakfast. Has a really quirky style perfect for hipsters and the common area is really cool. The owners have plenty of suggestions on what to do and see and even bake cakes. Feels like a home and can be pretty quiet but we liked that. Beds in the 5 bed dorm were squeaky when you moved but no big deal. We liked that 4 euros to buy a towel not just rent.
Never seen dirtier bathrooms except squat toilets in a vietnamese market. Loud bass thumping til 4am, we may as well have stayed in the bar cos it was probably quieter than our room. Rock hard mattresses. Lockers without the ability to lock. At 4 am drunks who'd forgotten their room number tried to break into our room and the surrounding ones. Woke at 7:30am to the sounds of someone vomiting into a bag sitting on the stairs outside our room. Will never ever stay at a St. Christopher's again.
