The directions to reach the hostel are poor and need to be accompanied by a map. E.g. you do not go 'through' the drug store, but rather 'go past'. Times car park is also not a good landmark as they are everywhere. Incidentally, please recommend alternative subway entrances at Iriya for guests arriving with baggage, as exit 1 involves A LOT of stairs to reach it from the subway arriving from Ueno. Once I found the hostel, it was great,
I only rate the atmosphere lower as I was there at a quiet time of year, so I was one of only 2 guests one night! I'm sure it is great though in busier seasons. Also plenty of tourist information and leaflets to help you plan your day visits.
Super clean and organised accommodation. The staff had lots of patience answering our (sometimes repetitive) questions, mainly about local jellyfish. We stayed in a private room which was very spacious and the kitchen area downstairs is very well equipped. Make sure to use the onsen!
Stayed in a private twin room which had everything needed for a night's stay. Comfortable and a good night's sleep. Not totally convinced about the carpet in communal areas given everyone's bare feet, but it does look clean.
Generally a pretty decent hostel though a few little extras could improve it. For example adding some hooks in the shower area and changing the door layout so that both shower cubicles can be used at the same time rather than locking them both if you ant some privacy to dry yourself and change. Please also oil the doors! It is hard to come back into the dorm rooms quietly because of the door noise. Wifi and computer facilities are good and staff very helpful and knowledgable.
Great hostel! I only listed the character and atmosphere lower as I visited off-season.
