Las Musas Hostel

Madrid, Spain

Kitchen and common areas make it easy to meet people. They offer a dinner option every night if you don't feel like cooking. Plus they sell cheap drinks in the lobby. There are all kinds of free or inexpensive organized events (day and night) that are a fun way to get to know the city and the surrounding areas. Thanks to the staff who made my trip to Madrid an awesome one!

Generator Hostel Dublin

Dublin, Ireland

No kitchen, so you have to buy the food there, which is good but expensive. They ran out of food and closed the kitchen earlier than their listed hours more than once during my stay. They serve beer in the lobby until late, but its ridiculously overpriced at 5 euro a bottle. There's a lot of seating, but for the most part clustered in 2 or 3 and really spread out so as a solo traveler, I found it hard to meet people. It's also a bit out of the way, a 20 min walk the main area.

Giramundo Hostel

Ibiza, Spain

I thoroughly enjoyed my second stay here! Inexpensive, right next to the beach (Figueretes), and vibrant atmosphere make it hard to beat. There's a kitchen to cook and a fridge to store your food. There's an ATM, supermarket, and bars/restaurants literally right next door and across the street. There's an outside common area where everyone hangs out. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Victoria and Esteban.

Great atmosphere for meeting people! Prime location for the beach, bars/clubs, restaurants. The included meals were good, too, and generous. John and the crew are super friendly and go out of their way to make sure we're all having a good time. Would definitely recommend participating in the nightly activities they plan.

This is a very cool spot. Great location, good atmosphere, friendly staff

The Boutike Hostel

Seville, Spain

The hostel was very clean, most comfortable bed I've slept in in a hostel, had a great atmosphere, and a nice kitchen/dining area/hangout spot. Front desk guy was extremely helpful/nice/charming. We had an early flight (~7am) and he not only called a cab for us the night before, but also arranged to have breakfast to go waiting for us when we left. Free beer voucher on arrival. Great location, easy to walk everywhere. Only 15 min from San Sebastian- less if you take the tram from there

Dar Jameel

Tangier, Morocco

Located in the middle of the old city, it may have been hard to find, but some guy offered to show us the way, which could have been sketch but was very helpful. Everyone we encountered was incredibly nice, including the staff at Dar Jameel. We were greeted with yummy mint tea, offered any kind of help we needed, and served a full service, delicious breakfast each morning. My favorite part was the rooftop patio that overlooked the city and the sea. Definitely worth every penny and then some!!

Living Lounge Hostel

Lisbon, Portugal

Had a very short stay here, but it was incredibly pleasant. The woman working at the front desk was very helpful and nice. The location was probably the best part. It was so easy to get to from there airport and therefore any metro stop; it's maybe a two minute walk from the metro stop, it could not be more convenient. An easy walk to anywhere you'd want to go in the city!!

Bodega Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand

I've never stayed at a hostel that cared more about its people. The staff will literally go out of their way to make sure you're having a good time, know where to go, etc. Great food and drinks, great atmosphere, great place to stay while exploring the city. Towels are provided and the beds are huge and comfortable. Be prepared to be hot though, even in the rooms where there's aircon. Perfect for a solo traveler. 10/10 would recommend

Five Stones Hostel

Singapore, Singapore

This hostel is in the perfect location for seeing the city, going out, etc. MRT closes quite early, and since this hostel is in walking distance of most bars/clubs, you don't have to worry about cab fare or anything. This hostel is also great for meeting people; large common area with aircon. Overall, it's worth paying the few extra dollars to stay here.

5footway.inn Project Boat Quay

Singapore, Singapore

This hostel is in a great location (close to bars/clubs/shopping/etc), and very easy to get to from MRT. It's right on the water and has a terrace that looks out over the river. Free hot and cold water and delicious coffee all day. No complaints.

Kayun Hostel

Kuta, Indonesia

This hostel was awesome. Great aircon in large, spacious rooms. The friendly front desk staff is very helpful in planning tours and other various activities (particularly helpful when I locked myself out of my room in the middle of the night). The pool, bar, and common areas are great places to chill and meet people. In the middle of dozens of shops, restaurants, bars, convenience stores, etc. A ten plus minute walk to the beach, but there's so much more to do in Bali than just go to the beach.

JGH Tokyo

Tokyo, Japan

This hostel is very small, but it is clean and run by a really nice, helpful woman at the front desk. It's pretty far from the city center, but it's not hard to get to with public transportation. It was small and far from the city center, but the low price makes it worth it for me.

Amazing atmosphere! Huge common areas make it very conducive to meeting people. We enjoyed a delicious, cheap meal that the hostel made, beers, and new friends each night we were there. 10/10 would recommend, would stay there again

Baxpax Kreuzberg Hostel

Berlin, Germany

Had an awesome atmosphere, and as a solo travel that's most important to me! Huge common areas, with couches, pool table, bar, etc. The staff was really friendly and helpful, too. The only complaint I have is the lack of temperature in the showers. Other than that, absolutely fantastic stay!

The White Tulip Hostel

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Pros: excellent location, friendly staff, irish pub downstairs was really good (if a bit overpriced) Cons: WAYYY overpriced, bathrooms were dirty all the time-we saw a MOUSE in the bathroom!!! rooms were hot and humid so you had to leave the window open which could get really loud (especially on sunday mornings when the church bells ring NONSTOP), no real common area, no wifi in the rooms, uncomfortable beds

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Central location. Excellent value for the money.

Sant Jordi Sagrada Familia

Barcelona, Spain

Pros: fob activated huge lockers, air conditioned rooms, wifi in rooms, huge common area and fully equipped kitchen, great atmosphere which is perfect for solo travelers, bathrooms were awesome and everything always felt clean, always something going on-nightly pub crawls and sometimes homecooked dinners, friendly and helpful staff Cons: not really in the middle of things, but very close to the metro so it doesn't really matter because you can still get everywhere, reallynothing to complain abt

Sant Jordi Sagrada Familia

Barcelona, Spain

This hostel was so much fun. Everyone knows everyone, and the staff was super helpful and friendly. Nightly bar crawls with cheap food and drink options. Good location, only a three block walk to the Sagrada Familia, and a few blocks from the metro, which takes you everywhere in the city. Rooms were kind of small, but the massive common room made up for it.

Woodstock Hostel

Paris, France

If you're looking for a cheap place to stay in Paris this is for you. However, you get what you pay for. Not very central location. Small rooms. Staff wasn't particularly friendly. Cool atmosphere though.

Cheap drinks at the hostel bar, which is a great way to meet people. Good location.

Ostello Bello

Milan, Italy

I loved this hostel. The atmosphere was incredible, the bar was perfect for meeting people and it seemed like a local hang out as well. Happy Hour was great- free food and cheap drinks. I would definitely recommend it and I would love to go back.
