Youth Hostel Meetingpoint

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Good common meeting area / bar. Smoking room attached, which is nice. Bedrooms are a bit rundown. The bathrooms are good enough, but the toilets can get quite dirty during the day. Location is excellent - right near Dam Square and the Red Light District.

Jetpak Alternative

Paid 6 euros for laundry and was assured it would be done by the end of the night. Didn't get done until the next morning and it wasn't fully dry. The hostel doesn't even have 24 hour reception so there were issues with checking out at very early times in the morning. Also, a person in my room had dirty bedsheets and the staff basically accused her of getting them dirty by sitting on them instead of politely replacing them.

Hostel One Home

Outstanding. The best staff of any hostel in Europe, without question. Nano and David made us awesome free dinners. Breakfast costs 75 crowns but is all-you-can-eat and they usually make some cake or pastry or something good. Facilities are awesome. There are free desktops you can use. Bathrooms and rooms are always clean. Location is excellent, literally 5 minutes from the Old Town Square.

Interesting hostel. My room had 6 beds and a bathroom, and was set up similar to a hotel room. No really good common room area to meet other people. The breakfasts are very good - free croissants, French bread, coffee, orange juice, etc. Location isn't great as you need a couple metro connections to get to the main sights of Paris.

Slightly above-average hostel. Beds are a little creaky, but the sheets are clean. Bathrooms are a little shady, but usually pretty clean, although the door doesn't extend all the way to the floor, which is a major annoyance. There's a hospital nearby so there are sirens all night long in addition to the bar music downstairs. Location is pretty decent - lots of main sights are easily accessible via tube.

Only one bathroom on the ground floor where I stayed and it was quite poor. Have to press a button every 10 seconds to take a shower, and only to get a cold, weak stream of water. That said, the rooms are charming and the curtains around the beds are a nice addition.
