The 10-person 'room' we booked was not a room at all. The hostel consists of a long corridor with beds all along the side, with no doors separating the rooms from each other. Both nights we stayed here, we were kept awake for hours by (drunk) people walking back and forth through our room to the bathroom, until 3.30 am during our second night. It was like sharing a room with 30 people instead of 10 or 12: false advertising at its finest. I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here.
When we arrived, at 1 p.m., our room was not ready yet, although it we should have been able to check in. We could store our luggage and come back a few hours later. When we got back from exploring the city at 5 p.m., it still wasn't ready. It took another hour for us to check into our (uncleaned) room. The bathrooms were filthy and the shower doors don't close. However, this hostel has a great living room and garden and the location is fantastic. Perhaps we just got unlucky.
During our stay, there were few other backpackers staying at this hostel. Instead, there were lots of Romanian men of 30-40 years old, who took over the kitchen, living room and garden. We had nowhere to sit and didn't want to join them, as they kept catcalling the girl in our group. There were no locks on the men's toilets or showers. Because our room was opposite the bathroom and ventilation was very poor, our room was hot and clammy. The laundry service the hostel provides is good, though.
We only spent one night at Caterina Hostel & Guesthouse and arrived rather late, but it was no problem! The hostel itself was a bit hard to find, but the rooms were huge and had comfortable beds. However, our room didn't have any curtains at all, which meant that it was already boiling hot early in the morning. Still a good location and good value for money.
Our stay at the Goodbye Lenin Hostel was really fun. The atmosphere and the staff are great, very welcoming, and you can chat to other guests as well as the people who work there. The hostel is a little way away from the old centre but public transport takes you there in no time. The only downside was the cleanliness of our bathroom. When we arrived, there was lots of hair clogging the drains which wasn't cleaned the next day. Luckily we could use other bathrooms down the hallway instead.
We received a lovely welcome when we arrived at Hostel Bridge. It was a little tricky to find (you have to enter through a restaurant and go up three flights of stairs), but upon arrival we were given our own keys and a map of the city. The staff were very helpful in telling us where the sights were and pointed out some good, cheap restaurants for us. Our room was comfortable and clean, with a fan and a safe for our valuables. We'd absolutely stay here again!
We had a very comfortable stay at the Check In Hostel. It was clean, comfortable and it had a great atmosphere. We met some very fun people during our stay. There's a Lidl supermarket around the corner and a U-Bahn stop nearby. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot to do near the hostel, so we spent our evenings somewhere else. The staff are really friendly and helpful as well.
