Lub d Bangkok Siam Square

A bit pricey, but a great modern hostel in a very central location. Easy to get to from the airport, easy to use the trains to get around, and the staff were very helpful.

Travellers Inn

A great location and friendly staff. More expensive than we were expecting, but that seems to be Mumbai accommodations in general. We slept in the 4 bed dorm and it was a little cramped and very hot (A/C not working) but other than that liked it.

Amar Niwas Guesthouse

Jodhpur, India

Conflicted about stay. It's away from the main clocktower area, but still easy walk to fort. A longer walk to the main area and restaurants. Facilities old, bathroom grungy, and electricity held together with sketchy wires. Owners seemingly friendly but made us feel unwelcome with nickle-and-diming policies and repeatedly emphasizing rules about lights, fans, etc. Owner seemed paranoid about being ripped off by anyone + everyone. Wi-fi expensive. Go only for a real "local" experience.

Mystic Jaisalmer

A great place to stay in Jaisalmer! Clean facilities and the rare dorm beds. Great rooftop area for hanging out, eating, and meeting fellow travelers. Good powers + wifi. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and we loved our one-night camel safari. They run the safari almost every day with other backpackers at the hostel, so it was easy to join a group.

Udai Haveli Guest House

A guesthouse that is literally a family's home where they rent rooms out. We got a cheap room, and the facilities were OK but we got what we paid for. Staff were friendly and helpful, but because the guesthouse isn't very big there were times they weren't available. Location is great, though, with short walks to the city palace, restaurants, and other activities. We wished we had stayed at the very nearby Dream Heaven.

Smyle Inn

A great place to stay in Delhi, but more of a hotel than a hostel. Close to New Delhi train/metro station - made it easy to walk there and use metro to get around. Hotel is spotless with great free wifi, A/C, and free breakfast. Staff were very helpful - Anil in particular was great when we needed help.

Chitwan Forest Resort

Chitwan, Nepal

A great place to stay in Chitwan when backpacking around Nepal. The best parts are the location (which is right in the middle of Sauraha and 3 min walking from the elephant bathing) and the staff (Deepak was fantastic in emailing with us ahead of time, helping us book activities once we arrived, and booking and arranging our bus ride to the Indian border once we left). Per other reviewers we didn't book the package, but individual activities on arrival. Only complaint: electricity was on/off.

Elbrus Home

Kathmandu, Nepal

Elbrus home was a great place to stay in Kathmandu. About a 5 min walk out of Thamel, it was an oasis of calm from the noises of Kathmandu. The staff was great, giving advice on trekking, holding our bags while we were on a trek, and even walking us to a clinic when my girlfriend got sick. Only issues: not much community among people staying there, and slow wifi. But those are small, and we had a great time at Elbrus.

Kilimanjaro House

Lamu, Kenya

Kilimanjaro House is a great place to stay in Lamu. There was no question of security, and my fiance and I felt safe the entire time. Doshi was fantastic, picking us up from the airport without charge and explaining the basics of the town to us in his laid back Rastafarian manner. There is a nice rooftop common area but it was quiet when we were there. One quick note - Lamu Town has no beach. The beaches are 40 min away (or 5 min by boat) in Shela Beach - stay there if you want beaches.

Cheers was a pleasure hosting you. Thanks

Yikes! My girlfriend and I have stayed in a lot of hostels this trip, and this was probably the worst. It is located near the matatu station, in a very busy and somewhat sketchy area. There is no sign (in Aug. 2013), making it impossible to find. There are few lights, and the hostel's interior is drab cement, with dirty toilets, dirty showers, and dirty rooms. But the worst part is the club across the street, making sleep before 4am impossible. Only good thing is the helpful staff, Monica.

Students & Travellers Inn

Athens, Greece

Hostel is in a great location, right in the middle of everything. At the time we stayed there (late June 2013) there was a bar and signs advertising daily happy hours, but the bar was never open, and staff was unhelpful in explaining why and when it would open. Other than that, hostel was decent - rooms and beds are clean, although bathrooms and shower rooms are a little small.

Fun hostel in a perfect location in the city; fun staff made our stay in Split a blast. Lots of partying; if you're looking for a quiet night, this probably isn't your place.

Perkovic Apartmani

Split, Croatia

These apartments are located on a hard-to-reach street close to the Split airport. We arrived later than expected and had a hard time finding the place. The directions given are not helpful and renters are advised to verify how they are getting to the place. Owner was not very helpful. No wifi at all. We needed a place close to the airport just for a single night, and while these apartments were close, we wish we had found a different place.

Day and Night Hostel

A nice hostel in a great location and helpful staff. We stayed here twice, once in a private room (located a few doors away) and once in a dorm room. The hostel is in a very good location relative to the train and bus stations - an easy walk to each. It's a little further away from the center of town and the streets of bars, but the walk is still easy, and it was nice to be able to set our packs down. Staff helpful and pointed us to fun areas, although hostel didn't organize outings.

Nap Hostel Pecs

Pecs, Hungary

A hostel with a cool atmosphere above a bar, located on a pedestrian street just a few minutes from the town center. Biggest negatives were the fact that the hostel is a long walk from the train station, and when we were there (late May), there wasn't much going on.

Budapest Bubble

A great, fun hostel centrally located in the city with an amazing staff that helps show you around. This is a small hostel with only a few rooms, but they use the size to their benefit, creating a family-like environment where everyone meets each other and goes out together. Easily reachable by Metro from the main train station and bus station, and walkable to nearly all of the sites, it's in an ideal location. Hostel staff organize night time activities every night you can choose to join.

Hostel Possonium

A fun hostel very close to the train station, although a little bit of a trek to the center of town. Biggest plus was the staff, who we found to be universally helpful and enthusiastic. There is a bar with an outdoor area there, and it was easy enough to meet people, although when we were there (mid May) we found most people were happy just chilling and relaxing.
