We had constantly heard Travellers Oasis was the best place to stay in Cairns, albeit a little more pricey. But you get what you pay for. It's so relaxed and friendly, with awesome staff and great facilities. While located off the centre it is a maximum 10 minute easy walk to it. A big plus is the fact that they let you bring alcohol in and drink there, which a lot of the other hostels don't allow as they want you to purchase from their bars. A brilliant all round hostel.
If you're on Kangaroo Island then you probably know there are slim pickings for backpackers. But, this cosy little bungalow provided a nice, clean environment with comfortable beds and good facilities. A bit out of the way as most of the activities we wanted to do were at the opposite end of the island, but if you rent a car (you have to if you want to get anywhere) then you are fine. The owner was lovely and it was located close to the supermarket... though beware it shuts very early.
Decent rooms. Decent location. But the term youth hostel should not be applied to somewhere that accepts all ages, both old and very young. Nice social areas, but these are impinged upon by the fact that there could be 10 rowdy 15 year olds swearing, shouting, and being a nuisance. Other hostels in the area looked pretty dingy though, so best to invest in this hostel as it is very nice and clean.

A lovely hostel, very modern and pretty. Great facilities in the form of kitchen and chill out rooms. Bathrooms were very clean. Close to the beach and a few shops and restaurants. If you're on the Great Ocean Road you won't find many places nicer to bed down.
This was a nice hostel, conveniently located opposite Flinders Street station, close to the shops and by the MCG. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very clean and tidy, almost too clean and tidy. The staff could probably relax a bit about the state of the hostel as you cannot leave anything lying about/leave washing up to dry before you are told to clear it up. But the staff will go out of their way to help you should you need to make any bookings.
This was one of the nicer looking hostels in Hobart. Free wifi was wonderful. If you come in winter it can get very chilly, luckily we were the only hostel room with a heater so you might want to request the 6 bed room. Overall a nice hostel with easy walking distance to the local shops. The free shuttle buses are wonderful too.
A wonderfully social hostel with great amenities including a downstairs bar. Great for meeting young, likeminded people. Also recommend the hostels free tours as they are great for getting to know other people. Overall one of my favourite hostels.
I spent an entire week at Isaacs and I am so glad I chose this hostel! the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and were super friendly and funny. The rooms were standard hostel rooms, maybe a bit noisy depending on location, but that's what you sacrifice for staying in such a social hostel! the hostel walking tour was great to meet people to go out on the bar crawl with... all in all a lovely time and if I'm ever back in Dublin this is where I'll be staying for sure!
A lovely 3 day stay at Rethymno including a hostel group day trip to Preveli beach (highly recommended). Basic rooms with air conditioning that would not win any awards... but met some great people and the town itself is lovely and quaint with a good night out to be had at Metropolis. Definitely worth a stay :)
We had a lovely 3 night stay at Villa Manos. Lovely hotel with a beautiful poolside area. The managing family were absolute stars advising us on trips and sorting out renting ATVS for us and also giving us a complimentary bottle of wine on our departure! rooms were pretty average with own mini kitchen area. Lovely place within easy reach of Fira (main town) and all the beaches.
