MEININGER London Hyde Park

London, England

Great location - straight across from Natural History Museum and 5 mins to South Kensington and Gloucester Road tube stops. Small lockers - not really big enough for rucksacks. Wi-fi worked well in reception. The bunk bed was too short for me (6'3"). Also, the room has a small shower. The lift can be a bit temperamental. There seemed to be a lot of school trips staying here. Breakfast is a standard hostel all you can eat, not bad but not great either and costs extra. Fairly clean.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Dear, thanks for this detailed comment. Nice, that you like our hotel's location and the hotel's cleanliness. Sorry for the beds being to small for you, but we only offer standard size beds. Cheers, Your MEININGER Team London

This hostel is very close to Termini train station (10 min walk) in a very secure building. It is close to the metro station and all main sights, as long as you don't mind some walking. (You may need to get a metro to the Vatican as it is a little further but only a couple of stops.) Staff are very friendly (especially the girl from Chile!). La Controra is very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is sufficient to get the day started.

Academy Hostel

Florence, Italy

Pros: Perfect location for main attractions. Very clean and modern facilities. Beds instead of bunks. Free Wi-fi and internet. Large private bathroom. Evening snacks. Cons: Terrible directions to hostel. No Wifi in room. Breakfast was very minimal. Male staff were either grumpy, temperamental or rude. (The guy with the goatee should learn to address a customer with "excuse me sir" instead of just barking "HEY" at him).

Wombats City Hostel Munich

Munich, Germany

This hostel is very close to the train station. It is very clean, with great facilities. The breakfast is very good with lots of variety (even a sandwich toaster) and cheap too. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which was very comfortable. The common area is big with a relaxed vibe and reliable wi-fi as well as a bar for socialising.

Great location as it is so close to the Westbahnhof so you are well connected but not much around locally. Nice cheap breakfast buffet in the morning - well worth it. Staff were friendly and informed us of places to go out at night. Moved from 6 bed dorm to two bed private which was very comfortable. (The dorm was fine but was roasting hot in middle of summer with all windows open and fan on.) Bar for socialising. Reliable Wi-Fi. Nice and modern.

Charles Bridge Economic Hostel

Prague, Czech Republic

Very friendly and helpful staff. Free bottled water was much appreciated. No real common area downstairs though. Right on Charles Bridge so can get a bit noisy outside. Also some very rowdy guests during my stay (location might attract a party crowd?). No breakfast but a really nice place about 30 seconds away. The rooms were very clean and had beds as opposed to bunks so very comfortable. Free internet and reliable wi-fi.

Grand Hostel Berlin

Berlin, Germany

I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which was very spacious and more like a hotel room. Electronic key code on the doors. Bathroom was nice, clean and big. Individual beds instead of bunks was a welcome change from other hostels! It's a bit of a walk to the main sights but this is no big deal as it is also close to the metro station. Great breakfast buffet with hot items (but a bit pricey if you get a drink - no free refills). Staff were very friendly. Creaky floorboards, loud doors but excellent wi-fi.

Generator Hostel Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany

This hostel is right beside the train station. It is very clean, with a good breakfast buffet in the morning (not free though but very cheap). I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which was cosy to say the least. The bathroom in the room was ABSOLUTELY TINY, but you could use a bigger one on the main floor for showering. Wi-fi was excellent. Individual power points and reading lights at all beds was great. There is a bar for socialising, and large common areas if you prefer some peace.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Excellent hostel. Staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and include you in all activities. Easily accessible by tram - 10 mins from train station. No breakfast - but there is a shop nearby so it's no big deal. Free internet and cooking facilities available. Friendly, chilled out common area. Clean room (if a little small) and nice shower. Would definitely look forward to staying again.

Brussels, Belgium

Sleephere is more of a guest house than a hostel, with a very relaxed informal atmosphere. Karel provides a really nice breakfast which is a great place to meet fellow travellers and so you feel at home right away. Beds and rooms are clean and comfortable. Front door requires code to get in. Wi-fi did not really work however. 10 mins from Louisa metro station.
