We really enjoyed our stay. The location makes walking a necessity to get to the area's main attractions but unless you're paying the big bucks to stay on the beach that's the norm in Patong. The neighborhood it is in has shops, restaurants and markets which is convenient. The owner was very nice and helpful. The room was large and cleaned daily. From a packers point of view it's one of the nicest budget places we've stayed.
We booked and paid a deposit only to arrive after 12 hours of travel to find the hostel was closed. There was no note on the door, we got no email warning and no one was around. After waiting 3 hours we finally got someone on the phone who told us they were having power issues and closed. No apology, no offer to help us find another place and no refund of our deposit was given. Perhaps this is a nice hostel, but our experience was entirely unprofessional. I wouldn't trust them to try a 2nd time.
The atmosphere here is what we backpackers look for. There are lots of great communal areas to hang out and meet people. Also the staff is knowledgable and friendly, the kitchen has the best burgers in town and the dorm rooms all have small private lock boxes. This is one of the best hostels we've stayed in in China.
The staff was super friendly and helpful- they helped us book several tours and seemed happy to answer all our questions. I'd return because of the staff's professionalism and friendliness alone. One thing we didn't like was 1 room we stayed in had a weird smell that drove my allergies crazy so try to get a room upstairs instead of down. Other than the smell we enjoyed the place and found its location user friendly for getting to and from the bus station and several local attractions.
