Happy Snail Hostel

Singapore, Singapore

A good location within easy walking distance of the centre of town and all the sites, with a great food court right next door. The rooms are very small and cramped though, so you don't get a lot for your money, but cheap considering Singapore prices. The staff are very friendly and good fun and get you some great discounts on all the tourist attractions, with lots of advise and tips. Absolutely fabulous plays on the TV continuously :) A welcoming, friendly atmosphere, great to meet people.

Teeraya Boutique Dormitory

Chiang Mai, Thailand

This hostel is amazing value for money, but not quite as centrally located as others, which is great if you enjoy a walk through the temple-strewn streets. Quite a quiet, but friendly atmosphere, great to meet fellow travellers, but not a party place. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and spacious, and there is even a pool. The staff are excellent and very kind, always up for a chat and a laugh. However, my door lock did break on me and I had to wait for it to be fixed.

Easy Go Hostel

Vang Vieng, Laos

This hostel is very, very cool. It's a little wood and bamboo tree house right on the river, with great views of the jungle and there's a really cool reclining area that's great to meet other travellers and hang out in the evening. It's in a brilliant location near by temples & tubing. However he rooms are quite simple, with no plug sockets, so it can be a bit awkward to charge stuff, and there were no locks on the doors, so security wasn't that great, but there were lockers available.

Bodega Hostel Hanoi

Hanoi, Vietnam

Very central, comfy hostel, with all the amenities you'll need and a buffet breakfast included. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and always greet you with a smile and wish you a good day. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, with en suite bathroom and free toiletries. Just beware of the aircon leaking water over the lockers if you leave it on too long!

Valentine Hotel

Hue, Vietnam

I cannot rave enough about how lovely the staff at this hostel were! They were just outstanding! They were so helpful with planning where to go in Hue & gave us lots of tips and advice. They were always up for a chat and were so so friendly and fun. They even bought us complimentary iced teas when we came in from a very hot, sweaty day... which they kept refilling free of charge the instant your glass was empty. The rooms are very comfortable and the amenities are great too!

NgocThao GuestHouse

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

The staff at this hostel are so nice and very helpful and keep the rooms very clean. They also help you out booking trips to everything you'll want to do in Ho Chi Minh, which come at pick you up right from the hostel. It's also very close to loads of bars, restaurants and shopping, and very social, so you'll meet loads of people, but don't be surprised if you're woken up in the dorms.

Me Mates Place

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Really friendly staff, always up for a laugh and kept the place very clean, but the hostel itself wasn't that great. Amazingly spacious rooms with nearly double-sized beds and super-hot showers, but the wifi didn't work at all upstairs, which was a massive pain on the 4th floor. The social areas were also not very welcoming to meet new people- the bar/ breakfast area didn't open early or late either, so there wasn't a lot to do in the evening if you didn't want to go out.

Downtown Siem Reap Hostel

Siem Reap, Cambodia

A centrally located, immaculately clean hostel, with an awesome pool. A great place to relax, but also has a very social atmosphere if you want to meet people and make friends. The staff were brilliant, both the British owner ( who gets you great deals on any trips or anything you want to do) and the Khmer, who were great fun and very, very friendly.

Pineapple Guesthouse

Phuket, Thailand

A good place to stay with friends, but not great for meeting new people. Pretty cool location, really close to Karon beach, which is quieter than Patong and very easy to get around by bus or bike. The Thai staff were amazing, keeping the place very clean, having fun with us and generally being very helpful, but the British owner was very unhelpful and unfriendly, and everything he planned for us turned out to be a total rip-off. Ignore him and stick to enjoying the locals!

Owner Comment (Hide)
I wish I knew what this guest was alluding to in the last sentence but I honestly have no idea. The Thai staff arrange just about everything but I do give advice based upon my nine years in Phuket. And we don't use rip-off places as it only comes back to haunt us via reviews like this. Confused!

Phuket, Thailand

Quite a quiet hostel, so not a great place to meet people, but brilliant place to chill out by the pool and very centrally located, to go out shopping or at night. The staff are very friendly and kind and keep the place incredibly clean. The pool is awesome and the rooms very comfortable and secure.

Lub d Bangkok Silom

Bangkok, Thailand

This hostel is awesome, especially as a first port of call for solo travellers. It's a great place to meet people and has a really nice atmosphere. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the hostel is really cool, very clean and very, very secure.
