Hidden House Hostel Montañita

Montanita, Ecuador

No lockers, only the owner had the key to the safe and he would disappear so I couldn`t access my money. Bedroom full of mosquitos and unbearably hot, and dust from the garden everywhere. Hostel is a long walk out of town and they still play loud music late so it`s not as though you get the benefit of being away from the music from the bars. No soap provided. The only positive is the nice garden with hammocks and a relaxed atmosphere. Don't bother, stay in the town - loads of choice there.

Hostal Yakumama

Cuenca, Ecuador

Perfect location just 2 blocks from main square. Good mattresses and double duvet! Wifi throughout hostel. The owners are great, friendly and on the ball, but all other staff totally clueless. Free breakfast embarrassingly small (2 tiny pieces of bread) but you can pay for eggs and extra bread. The 10 bed dorm is a roof terrace that they've thrown a roof onto, it is drafty and there are no curtains. 360 degree attack of sunlight in the morning! No guest kitchen.

Casa Fresh

Huanchaco, Peru

No lockers. The staff locked my valuables in their safe at the front desk, and when I checked out the person who had the key was out! So I couldnt access my cash, cards, passport, if I had been leaving town it would have been a big problem. The hostel is in a nice location on the seafront, a little out of town but Huanchaco is a small place soít is no big deal. Nice roof terrace. No breakfast so you have to go elsewhere to eat which is annoying first thing in the morning.

El Mochilero

Trujillo, Peru

had to ask staff to clean bathroom as after 2 days it had not been cleaned. very unpleasant damp smell in dorm aggressive dog that barked loudly whenever anyone rung the bell (including in the middle of the night) and made you feel most unweclome. No one wants to be met by loud barks and snarling of teeth. No lockers in my dorm, had to go to another dorm and use one of theirs - luckily that dorm was not full, otherwise there would not have been one for me. No atmosphere. Go elsewhere.

Hostel Akilpo

Huaraz, Peru

Very kind staff, who give you all the info you need. Hot water, great location next to huge market. A little noisy next to the street but that always seems to be the case in towns in Peru.

beautiful building, nice sitting room and bar. helpful staff and 24h reception. sadly on a very noisy main road but I would return here. Central Lima isn´t the best part of town though - it´s good for sights but not much happening at night. you will probably end up moving to Miraflores. but its good to start a stay in Lima here.

Lybeer Travellers' Hostel

Bruges, Belgium

Very expensive. Great location near lots of key sights but still on a quiet street. Cool 'capsule'-style beds in the dorms with your own light and plug socket. Nowhere near enough bathrooms for the amount of guests. If they could put mirrors in the rooms maybe people wouldn't spend as long in the bathrooms. Or have showers and toilets separate! Because if someone is having a long shower and you really need to pee it's not great! Really nice bar but they only sell beer- not everyone drinks beer!

no lockers and no lock on bedroom door. breakfast very basic - no tea or coffee, however the hostel is right by a metro station and the staff are very friendly. good shower and clean kitchen facilities

Pariwana Hostel Cusco

Cusco, Peru

Hotel Utama

Copacabana, Bolivia

far too expensive, and it didn´t have heating. I only booked this place as there was only 4 options on hostel world but Copacabana is FULL of hostels. Everything is either a hostel or a restaurant. You can definately go without booking and find something much cheaper than this place. The owner was nice and the breakfast was great. The bed was super comfy. The shower was weak.

La Covacha Hostel

Salta, Argentina

The owner and his sister were incredibly kind and helpful, calling to book me my next hostel and giving lots of info about the town. Yhe hostel was really quiet and chilled - perfect. The shower was powerful and very hot. It was the cheapest and best hostel experience I´ve had in South America. Great location, near bus station and not far from centre. I would recommend ANYONE to stay here, unless you like party hostels. This was the opposite of that. I would stay there again without hestiation.

Freedom Hostel Rosario

Rosario, Argentina

I was badly bitten by bed bugs, it´s disgusting. I told the girl at reception in the morning, she said she would tell the owner but I never received an email apologising.
