Jollyboys Backpackers

Livingstone, Zambia

Really great stay. They were willing to alter reservations--both to allow us to stay at the Backpackers instead of the Camp, and to allow us to stay in a cheaper room when that opened up. The partying was pretty loud two of the four nights, and went really late--not sure that anything can be done about that, but 3 a.m. is going a bit long when it's happening right outside of doors where folks are sleeping. Great atmosphere, though, and the trip booking service was awesome. Great advice.

Shoestrings Airport Lodge

Johannesburg, South Africa

Stayed here three different times. Rob is consistently cheerful and helpful with airport transfers (free!), getting to public transportation, advice about what to do and where to go, etc. You can literally see the tails of planes from this airport hostel. No bar or food (beyond free breakfast), but the Protea Hotel is just across the street for this. Very quiet and restful. There is always somebody to watch the news with in the living room, which has a fire on cold evenings.
