Gallery Hostel Porto, Porto, Portugal
20th Nov 2013

This was absolutely the best hostel I've ever been to!!! Astonishing indoors, still very cosy, everything you need if it comes to facilities (bar, cinema/chill room, vastly equipped kitchen, smoking area with a real tree), great breakfasts (with scrambled eggs prepared on demand), very spacious dorms each with big bathroom, huge lockers in rooms, card locks in rooms and hostel, walking tours included and last but not least really friendly and extremely helpful staff-really felt great there :)

Bigger dorms are combined in two (half-wall+curtain between),smaller ones more expensive, but similar standard, blankets and pillows shabby, small lockers provided in the rooms, but with no lock (of course you can buy it - no info about it beforehand), smelly bathrooms, untidy kitchen with not sufficient number of tableware (even during off-season), breakfast kind of standard, but the only bread provided was hard biscuits. Low price though - suggested only for one night.

Whole hostel rather works as construction/physical workers temporary place.Noises, mess and drunk people on the corridors 24/7,hostel not taking responsibility for anything, food being stolen from fridges. We've booked a twin room-nothing like on the photos, old mattresses, musty smell, glass doors to twin- and double rooms(with fully transparent parts!!!) located on ground floor-impossible to sleep.Shower cabins in bathrooms without doors, together with toilets. Not good for backpackers.Cheap though.

Several things stay simply unacceptable. On our arrival the receptionist didn't know that we've already paid the hostelworld deposit and wanted whole sum (we had to be really persistent - not a pleasant start) - no apologies received. The offered towels were really small, but more important, even though they were washed they all had lots of dark-stains (visit at the reception desk didn't help). Housekeeping didn't vacuum the floor, not to mention dust-bunnies and sticks under the bed.
