Bergen YMCA Hostel

The location of this hostel is simply perfect, but the hostel itself isn't very comfortable. The luggage room is freely accessible to anyone, even to people not staying in the hostel, which is why I used the lockers at the train station instead. The staff has a habit of ignoring guests standing at the desk for a few minutes before reacting, which can become incomfortable when there is a longer queue forming. The breakfast is of decent quality for a reasonable price.

This is a hostel without any staff. Access to the building is provided through a numeric code used to open the entrance, which is texted an hour before 'check-in' (they presumably change the door code each day to regulate). The absence of staff is of quite some influence to the atmosphere, as it feels for example less secure, and everyone is just keeping a close eye on each other. The bathroom and kitchen are outright filthy, and the sleeping area is dusty. The location is, however, perfect.
