Hostel Polako

Trebinje, Bosnia And Herzegovina

Polako means 'Slow, relaxed' and Hostel Polako has just the right mix of being able to completely relax (in my case, sleep for hours!) and to socialise in the spacious common area over awesome breakfasts (included), snacks and local Rakiya. Perfect! Thanks Lauren and Bartosz, you've created the dream hostel in a gorgeous chilled out town! I'll be back!

Sweet & Cheap

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Maria and her Mum and Dad make you feel so welcome - juice and biscuits when you arrive, coffee in the morning and if you are self-catering perhaps a drop of their homemade wine. 35 mins walk or 60Kn taxi from the bus or train station is no problem when you head out onto the terrace and take in the views over Dubrovnik town and ocean. The Old Town, not visible from the terrace, is 15 minutes walk away. Clean with kitchen, and laundry and pick up service available. Recommended - but like steps!

Hostel Temza

Friendly family run hostel, short walk to bus and train stations and 20 minutes through parks to the main square. Spacious and clean dorm rooms, good wifi, a small kitchen for self-catering and laundry service, this was a nice hostel to stay at, good value for money, helpful staff and a nice common area to hang with others. Recommended.

The new owners are doing a great job. They gave me maps and lots of info about what to do in Ljubljana and around. The hostel is spacious, has a great communal kitchen, free tea and coffee, strong wifi, power sockets and lamps on each bed and small lockers for valuables for most guests. There is only one toilet and one separate shower room for all guests but this never seemed to be a problem. 5 mins walk from the main square and 15 or so mins from the bus and train stations - perfect!

Lovely hostel right in the old town of Koper. Good wifi, big common room and kitchenettes on each floor (including a coffee machine). The staff are really friendly and helpful, let me use the washing machine for free and gave lots of advice on getting to Piran etc. Koper is a cute town and only 45 minutes on the bus for a day trip to Piran. I could have easily stayed longer here and felt very at home. Large lockers for each guest. Steps to top rooms a good work out! :-)

Nuova Locanda Belvedere

Zena on the front desk is a superstar and goes out of her way to help with anything that comes up. The hostel is 5 mins walk from the Venezia Mestre train station and about 3 Euros into Venice proper. This was perfect for me, easy to get to and leave from and a great place to relax away from the madding crowds of Venice. Terrace and common room for socialising, lots of showers - no guest lockers or kitchen (except kettle and vending machines) but all made up for by Zena and the quiet location.

Great Hostel!! Spacious. Reliable wifi. Tanya the owner and her staff speak good English and couldn't be more helpful. Tanya is also a fascinating well-read person to talk with. Great area for drying clothes. Clear directions online. I completely recommend this hostel. Top place.

Nerpa Hostel is amazing!! Staff speak great English and go out of their way to make guests feel at home. Big common area. They can sort trips to Olkhon Island (their recommended accommodation on the Island has no hot water but has a banya and is otherwise truly lovely). Nerpa is about fifteen mins walk from the train station and a short and pleasant walk over the bridge into town. They have lots of information on suggested walks and activities. Page on facebook! Stay here! One if the best!
