Myplace Guest House, Okinawa, Japan

The guesthouse was great, the place was very clean and pretty secure (as secure as you ever need to be in a safe country like japan) with lockers and locks provided, and a passcode needed to enter the accomodation floors (easy to guess, but it scrambles so at least drunk people can't enter) Location is rather out of the way, however, at least a 15 minute walk from Miebashi monorail, or 10 minutes from the bus stop. If you rented a car it's an ideal place. Otherwise be prepared to walk, a lot.

Hostel Mundo Chiquito, Kyoto, Japan

The hostel was located in central Kyoto so going anywhere you'd want to visit in Kyoto is actually easy - walking distance to Nijo Castle so everything orientates around there. The owners and staff were nice, helpful and friendly and largely it was easy place to stay in. The place itself is a Japanese style space (i.e. small) and there is only one toilet and two showers which can take you a while, there is no dryer so you have to kind of climb up to the 2nd floor to dry any laundry.

Fukuoka Backpackers Hostel, Fukuoka, Japan

On the map it looks close to the train station, but if you are carrying a bit of stuff as I was it is much easier to take a bus from Hakata station as it's quite a walk (around 15 mins). The actual hostel was nice and clean, and close to food outlets and convenience stores. Atmosphere wise, it was honestly one of the strangest hostels i've been to in the sense that the staff outnumber guests in the common area - and they all speak japanese amongst themselves. Which is a weird for a hostel.

The hostel is a traditional japanese house - style which is in pretty decent condition. Sadly the guest house is in a rather out of the way location (Namba station - Nankai Main Line - Shichido Station) and is not the easiest to get to. The dorms are located on the second floor and it's a rather steep and narrow flight of steps up, so if you are bringing a bit of luggage do take that into consideration.

Sakura Hostel Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan

Sakura hostel is a very good place to stay in Tokyo - location wise it's a bit of a challenge to figure out if you are new to the city (hint, look for sensoji temple and orientate your way from there, facing Sensoji temple head to your left and in that general direction you should be able to find it a little easier. Facilities are great, everything you need from a hostel, very clean toilets, very helpful staff - and nice and large common area.

I liked the travellers' cafe here - food was good and so was the coffee. The location was also great, a 15 minute walk to Dong Shi Shi Tiao Metro and 15 minutes to San Li Tun and Yashow market. It takes you 5 minutes if you take a tram or a bus. For Beijing i thought it was good value for money, and I would return again. Things I would have appreciated having: -it was a billiards table for a pool game :p and 10Y is ok but free would create more atmosphere

I liked the travellers' cafe and the location - just inside of the South Gate and walking distance to metro and buses. Though I had little idea that the Park Qin bar would literally be on the basement level of the hostel - for me as my room was in yard 2 it was right above, and a few nights the loud music wasn't too nice. To be fair, I should probably have gone to HanTang Inn as the name of the hostel after all includes "Party Hostel". Not the right atmos for me, but it may be for you

Flipflop hostel isn't by any means the biggest, nor is it the most 'hip' hostel around, but it's got a really nice atmosphere and charm to it. Its got a great common area and I had a great time chilling out there. I felt really at home. The 'flipflops at all times' rule isnt strictly enforced (heh). Big ups to the great staff especially Rabbit, Jim, Georgia, May and Sherry, who were really helpful and friendly. The aunties who prepare the food were also amazing. Would return here next time! :)
