Andes Hostel

Santiago, Chile

Very efficient well run hostel, comfortable beds and clean spacious bathrooms. Staff very helpful and knowledge on the area, spoke good English which was great for our tired brains. Right next to underground which was helpful. Our only complaint was that the rooms were incredibly hot and airless and to keep them comfortable we had to sleep with the windows open, but the traffic was very loud and we didnt sleep well. some fans would have helped immesurably. Atmoshpere a bit dull at times.

Surf Eat Sleep

Pichilemu, Chile

Had a fantastic stay, staff and owner made us feel very welcome, the atmosphere in the place really made our stay great. We had bbq every night, everyone was really friendly. Beds very comfortable and the place was cleaned every day, there was always hot water and the kitchen was fairly well equipped. This was one of the best places we have stayed in four months and would recommend it for a chilled out holiday feel!

Hostal Al Yaras

Elqui Valley, Chile

We had a great stay at villa badiian we were meant to stay 2 night and I think we ended up staying for 4. Richard the new owner could have made us fell more at home, we had delicious breakfasts and amazing home cooked meals every night( for a reasonable cost) and spent the evenings sitting out talking on the decking under the stars. For us the location was perfect only a few minutes walk from the main road and the river which was great for an afternoon dip. Can't recommend this highly enough

Santa Cecilia

Sucre, Bolivia

Stayed over Christmas, the owner, although there was a language barrier was lovely and we felt welcome. Room was very comfortable but bathroom really needed a good clean! About 10 min walk from the main square. Nice place to stay, little expensive but it was Christmas after all! Had use of the kitchen and living room.

VIP House

Cusco, Peru

Stayed one night before our inka trek, double bed was very uncomfortable and the sheets didn't fit, shower was cold, breakfast was not served when we left for our trek. Staff were nice, we kept our luggage in a locked room whilst we were away. We stayed at the same hostel on our return in a dorm which was much more comfortable.

Mercaderes Backpackers

Arequipa, Peru

Stayed in a dorm room, good value, but had no curtain or cover for a glass door so was really bright in the mornings! No where to keep valuables in the room but did have a locked room for bags whilst waiting for buses/planes etc. breakfasts were great and it's only about 10-15 min walk from the centre.

La Casa de Maruja BB

Huaraz, Peru

Had a lovely stay, gilf and Maruja made us feel so welcome! He even picked us up from the bus station free of charge. We had a huge room, although our shower was tempromental gilf I'd all he could o fix it. The owners helped us organise some amazing treks, lending us equipment for free and kept our bags safe in the room whilst we were away. Maruja made us breakfast really early or really late depending on when we had o get up! It's quite a walk from town but well worth the taxi ride. Great place

Good central location, had lockers in the rooms, cleaned regularly. The atmosphere was ok, quite difficult to talk to some people and the staff could be a bit difficult to approach. I will say they had the most comfortable bed we have stayed in sofar in South America!

Ocara Hostel

Manaus, Brazil

We stayed at ocada on two separate occasions. The owner fabio and the majority of his staff were great, but some could be surly! The dorm we stayed in was a good size, beds comfy but it was attached to a female only room and they had to walk through our which was annoying! The biggest problem was the state of the bathrooms (which on our second stay was much better) the bins overflowing and toilets and showers in desparate need of daily cleaning! Overall good, good facilities and near to town.

El Viajero - Hostel & Suites

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

Very helpful staff, couldn't do enough for you. Hostel was comfortable, twin room a bit expensive and lack of bathrooms was noticeable. The living room was comfy, kitchen quite small but adequate. Good central location easy walking distance to the historic centre. No lockers for your stuff and the door was always open so security could be better. Not a bad place to stay!

America del Sur Hostel Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Large hostel, friendly very busy staff, very clean, in a good area for exploring. Sometimes felt a bit impersonal due to the size but would def stay again and recommend it.

Hostel Manga Rosa

Foz do Iguacu, Brazil

Very comfortable hostel, ran by a lovely couple who make you feel completely at home. Space in our dorm room limited but the communal areas were large and comfy. Very clean throughout, bar and swimming pool area still in progress so didn't sit out there much. Very helpful and knowledgable owners who were very willing to make sure you have a good time. Good place to stay, good showers, free lockers but it is quite a way out of town so be prepared for bus or taxi rides to gt anywhere. Good place

Che Lagarto Hostel Paraty

Paraty, Brazil

Good size hostel with excellent welcome, staff very friendly and have good tips for things to do. Communal areas comfortable, good wifi, loads of seats for breakfast/dinner. Hostel felt very safe, lockers free, great position in town, easy to get round. Rooms small but comfortable, ensuite a bit odd in a mixed dorm. Very cold showers!!! Dinners prepared by hostel every night are good quality and value but the kitchen facilities were the smallest we have across so far!

Pousada Mar Azul

Ilha Grande, Brazil

Great central beachfront location with really friendly helpful staff. Room was unimpressive, full of mosquitoes, bad smells from drains and bathroom, and strangely the lamp shades!! Very noisy at night from upstairs restaurant and kitchen despite us being told we must be quiet from 10! The island was amazing and wold fully recommend a visit but this posada was over priced for what it provided. Showers were good though!

Samba Green Hostel

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Bright welcoming hostel in botofogo. Staff friendly, owner Carlos was just lovely and made us feel at home! Good suggestions from staff of things to do, breakfasts fresh and plentiful. Shower was cold/ non existent for one day but other days hot and strong, other than that no complaints! Not on the beach but easy enough to get to. Had a more authentic rio feel than other hostels we saw. Great starting place for our trip.
