Gion Ryokan Q-beh

The ryokan was awesome, clean and perfectly located. The only two downsides were, that there is only two shower rooms so one might need to wait a bit in the evening when everyone wants to shower, and the fact that you could hear in your room people using the hair dryers (dryes and washing basins located on the hallway) still quite late in the evening (like after 23pm). I really liked the rooms and the koi pond in the garden and the traditional ofuro.

Budget Hotel Hortus

The hostel was good value for money in a good location not far from the busy center but still a quiet location. There was a big supermarket and the zoo nearby. Facilities are a bit outdated but the rooms are clean. Typically for the older buildings, the stairs are narrow and deep, which wasn't a problem since we only had backpacks. Breakfast was simple, but being included to the price it was good enough. Not a place to meet other travelers but perfect for couples or friends travelling together.

The location was perfect and the hostel was clean and nice. It wasn't even hard to find due to good guidance provided before our trip. Only downside would be its thin walls, thus all the noise from the streets can be heard. The hostel provides guests with earplugs though :) The hostel is perfect for couples or people who want a place to sleep, not for people who enjoy mingling with other hostel guests.
