Agreed by email a lower bunk beforehand (due to injury) but this was not secured so had to suffer it the first night but a nice receptionist sorted a change later. Also pointed out a serious health issue within the kitchen but management addressed this. Most of the hostel works well but a few snags e.g. locks not working and quite flimsy metal beds. Need to invest in better quality tea and coffee as undrinkable. Understand an expansion into Ground Floor space and overall refurb is due soon.

I have stayed several times here and always find it enjoyable. Arrived this time to see that there has been a construction overhaul with a much larger open reception area and the basement has been adapted into a sizeable self catering kitchen and breakfast area (previously there was a long walk to the top of the building for breakfast). Comfy beds, lockers, and spacious on on-suite all make the stay more very welcome. Its a 5 to 10 minute walk to New Street Station and the main shopping area.

The Walrus Hostel, London, England

24th Mar 2016

I had stayed at the Walrus a couple of years ago and returned here for two nights at Easter when my preferred place to stay South of the River wasn't available. It is a pub and hostel combined with rooms upstairs in an older building just short of Waterloo station a couple of minutes from Westminster Bridge. Great location for the major sights e.g. London Eye, Westminster etc. Rooms I have stayed in were a bit tight for space but for a couple of nights it was OK as a back up hostel option.

Enjoyed my time here. Funky place in Friedrichshain but only a 10minute walk to the cool Kreuzberg District. Cheap and plentiful breakfast compared to some other hostels. I don't see much of a problem with the single key system thing.

Stayed here three times now. Large corporate hostel well appointed and located 10mins from Alexanderplatz. Vibrant bar with happy hour and helpful reception staff. Breakfast at 6.90euro was a bit steep on what it was before so gave it a miss. All the PCs were out when I was there - not sure if they will return considering most people have their own iphones etc. I went across the road to a shop to print off my boarding card so not a problem. Oh and it has a kitchen which is handy.

Second visit to Lollis Homestay. Small common area that acts as both bar and breakfast zone but offers plenty of interaction with other travellers. Also right in the centre of the new town. Breakfast was 4euro a bit more expensive than 2 years ago. I also don't like the policy of optional linen with an added cost. Despite that I would always stay at this hostel when in Dresden.

View Property Reply

Dear guest, thanks a lot for your great review of our Hostel. We are delighted that you stayed here another time and enjoyed it again :-). For the linen we do charge the extra fee to cover the costs for cleaning. Thats basically why we charge it. Beside that our guests are allowed to use their own sheets or sleeping bag if they want. We wish you safe travels and hope to see you soon again. Best regards. Martin - Lollis Homestay.

Great vibe and location. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm (two triple bunk beds). Fortunately there was only a max of 3 people at anytime otherwise it might have been a bit of a squeeze. Otherwise I would recommend this hostel. Only issue that the hotel might address .is to offer some proper coffee at breakfast rather than the instant.

I stay here fairly regularly as location gives you so many options - Brixton, West End, East London. Lots of cheap eat and drinks places nearby. It is a touch pricey but you get what you pay for in London and this is a very comfortable place to stay.

Thank you for your review. We love our convenient location and are pleased to see you found some of the great eating and drinking places in the area. Look forward to seeing you again next time you're in London. Kind Regards, Kelly, Reception Manager.

Good hostel close to Sevilla centre. Kind staff (they take you into a side room when checking in to explain everything) who helped me with printing of a boarding card. One problem is the lack of a receptionist before 8am so those needing to get away have to abandon your 5euro deposit.

A typical backpackers over the other hotel style hostels you can find in Malaga. Expect it’s a really brilliant place when they are more guests but I was there in the Winter time and it was rather quiet although owner included me in dinner on Xmas eve. Didn't bother me too much but it is a longer walk from the main sites.

Always stay at the Safestay when in London. More of a budget hotel than a hostel. Great neighbourhood with a bustling high street and 2mins from the Elephant and Castle with the markets and shopping centre. Buses to the West End, Brixton and Westminster stop outside the Hostel. Decent continental breakfast and very comfy beds. A tip: explore the roads behind the Hostel down to Kennington Park where there are really nice small parks and community gardens.

Euro Hostel Newcastle, Newcastle upon Tyne, England

Clean hotel type hostel in the centre of town. Should meet most travellers needs. Booked a single room - good price at £25 pounds. Was given a 4 bed dorm however which even without other people was a bit tight for space. Also the charging arrangement for the breakfast was not explained at Check In. For the price I thought it was average (especially the cooked items & awful coffee ) so ate elsewhere on later days. £1 charge for bag drop off I always think as being non customer friendly.

I recommend this hostel in a large former industrial building. Definitely the better of the two main hostels in Birmingham. Good location just off the City Centre close to the canal system and the Jewellery Quarter. Slightly difficult to find but OK if you follow the directions given. Nice kitchen, dining area and TV/Common Room. Pubs, shops and fast food places nearby. All rooms seem to be “on suite” only downside is that not all have lockers in the room for valuables.

Hatters at Hilton Chambers, Manchester, England

Very accomodating and a bit less hectic than the other Hatters around the corner. Also that they had a 24hr reception to allow me to book in late. Bit pricey for a hostel but the premium was for xmas. Support other comments about the need for better heating in the rooms. Also the beds are flimsy with very thin pillows. Other than that would recommend it.

Wombats City Hostel Munich, Munich, Germany

Good place to stay in Munich located straight across from the central station. Note also that the neighbouring hostels (Jaegers and Eurohostel) both have age restrictions, so if you are over 35 wanting to stay in a dorm Wombats is the best option. One drawback is that there is no self catering kitchen. If that is important to you try Meinengers a further kilometre up the road.

Very good and well appointed hostel as per all Meinenger outlets. It is not central but only one stop or a 15 min walk away from the central station. To its advantage is the West End amenities (bars and shops) and the Augistiner Beer House across the road. The main advantage of this Munich Hostel however is the self catering kitchen, absent in those others clustered around the Hauptbanoff. Well worth visiting if you want to avoid the more youth orientated hostels in the City.

Nice hostel with good breakfast on offer. Note this is not in the centre of Cologne which is about 20 minutes away. Really liked the self catering kitchen.

You are right, we are not really near to the cathedral. But in Cologne there is not only "the one" centre. Our hostel is located in the centre of the student-restaurant-bar area of Cologne. So you just have to walk 5 minutes and you will reach couple of bars and restaurants ;) To the cathedral you have to walk round about 25 minutes. If you take the tram, you'll need 10-15 minutes ;) Our guest-kitchen is opened 24/7, so that you can use it everytime. Of course it is for free and we can offer you some basics to cook your perfect dinner =) We hope that you've had a pleasant stay in our hostel! Thank you sooo much for the comment and see you soon.

You have to take the rough with the smooth at this hostel. Pretty serviceable and clean but the noise at the weekends can be a severe drawback from the two adjacent venues. On the beds issue the (thin) mattresses seem to be designed for futons so for those with any back issues may wish to go elsewhere. Some general maintenance on faulty lights, locks, door handles, toilets wouldent go a miss. As others have said - it will do the job for one or two nights.

I liked it here and would stay again - liked the bunks and the curtains but is a bit of a task if you are in the bottom one clambering in and out. There were no lockers in the room I was in for some reason - the reception staff tried to explain to me that certain rooms did not have these. Basic Breakfast provided. Good to have a well equipped kitchen on our landing so I suppose that was the trade off.
