It is good to know that it is possible to keep a large hostel like the Planet Traveler in Toronto regarding security, cleanliness, friendly and intent staff. A good breakfast is served and the staff shows great effort that the kitchen is kept clean and coffee is available. We used the possibility to rent bikes provided by the hostel. Here, we had some difficulties because bikes were partly not worth for the road and staff couldn't help us very much to fix it (but always tried hard).
We had a two bed room with a shared bathroom for two nights. The room was clean but the house has paper thin walls and creaky doors. Furniture (for what?) in the laundry room consists of dirty sofa and and ugly mattress. The possibility to wash clothes is very good but all machines were very dirty. The staff was friendly and always helpful.
We had a room for two persons with a private bathroom. The first room we got was not cleaned, to our complain we got another room which was okay. The bathroom was in a good state, the room clean but with a shabby atmosphere. Room is cleaned daily. Parking lot from hotel is not avaiable, private parking is 15$ per day in front of the hotel. Very loud neighborhood but in the center of culture and entertainment.
We booked two beds in a room for 8 persons but were alone in our room. It was very clean and in a good state. Our room was without window with noisy air condition what is disturbing during night. Staff was professional. The breakfast was simple and tasty. Parking on public street during the night free.
We had dirty blankets, which were changed to our complain. Furniture and carpets are very old and outworn. In general, the hostel has a very grubby atmosphere. We had a flatscreen TV in our room, what we don't expect from a hostel, the money should be better invested in renovation. The neighborhood is loud but restaurants, supermarket and bars are around. Staff not present and has to be called by housephone. We have seen better hostels for less money.
