Citystay Mitte

Berlin, Germany

Enjoyed my stay here very much. Very central, and therefore within walking distance of a metro station and all major Berlin attractions. Rooms are well kept and lockers are provided. Breakfast is particularly good here, for a small fee. Bar area downstairs has a good atmosphere and is a good place to meet people. Would stay here again and definitely reccommend.

Charles Bridge Economic Hostel

Prague, Czech Republic
83%

My favourite thing about this hostel was the location. The Charles Bridge area is beautiful yet close to all the major attractions. The staff are particularly helpful as the reception also doubles as a tourist information centre. The rooms are large, clean and beds comfortable. Wi-fi was also particularly good here, as it is generally weak in most hostels. Far from a party hostel, the atmosphere was quite laid back in fact, so depends on what you're after, but I'd stay here again.

Excellent hostel. It is large and has a lot of guests, but isn't too busy, which makes for the right kind of atmosphere. Well located in Vienna. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet is excellent value. The bar downstairs is cheap and a good place to meet people. There is a good vibe here but I wouldn't call it a party hostel. Wombats seems a very well-run chain and would highly reccommend.

Ravin Hostel

Budapest, Hungary

Stayed for 3 nights and was the only guest in the place, which was very bizarre. This aside it was a pleasant enough stay. Rooms were large and clean, the hostel is well located and close to all major attractions. Not a social hostel by any means, there are no social/common/lounge areas for meeting others. Lack of atmosphere aside, I have no complaints about my stay, and would probably stay here again providing it was a little more full.

Enjoyed my stay here v.much. Would definitely reccommend. #bunk is a good hostel & within walking distance to all of Istanbul's attractions. Friendly staff, & facilities are clean and comfortable. Not the hugely luxurious experience it is promoted as though - friendly & constructive advice to management; take it easy on the marketing guys, you have a lovely, well-furnished hostel that is clearly well run and a pleasant place to stay, but be careful of promising the world on your website/h'world.

A good hostel in an excellent location in Queenstown town centre. Had a comfortable stay with clean rooms and a comfy dorm bed. A little expensive relative to the rest of NZ but then everywhere in QT is. Very much a 'large' hostel, so will depend on what you're after; facilities are excellent but perhaps lacking in the atmosphere of smaller, more communal hostels.

Chateau Franz Backpackers

Perfect base to see both the FJ and Fox glaciers. The staff were extremely helpful in arranging a day trip over to Fox. I enjoyed my stay here and would strongly reccommend. It is comfortable, clean and has good facilities. Free breakfast is provided, as is soup in the evenings for guests. It is also one of the very few places I've stayed in NZ which offers free & unlimited wi-fi too, which is excellent.

Very nice hostel located in the centre of Nelson. It is well run, with friendly and extremely hospitable staff. The building maintains a very nice guesthouse feel, is well furnished and kept clean and tidy. The cafe on site is great for food and drinks. Accents is also the perfect base for a trip to the Abel Tasman National Park. Would highly reccommend.

Very, very good hostel in the heart of Rotorua city centre. Close to all major attractions, shops and bus stops. Staff were excellent; very helpful and ran a well-organised hostel. Everywhere was clean and tidy and new. Much better atmosphere here compared with other backpacker hostels I've stayed at in NZ, with all rooms branching off the main communal area which keeps everything very friendly. Would highly reccommend this place.

Base Auckland

Auckland, New Zealand
80%

An excellently located hostel in the city centre with excellent facilities. Also offers good value for money compared with other inner city hostels. The rooms are fine; well-serviced and cleaned regularly. The staff were adequate but not great. I got the impression Base places more emphasis on long term, working visa guests as opposed to short term, passing through guests. Not that this was much of an issue for me, it was fine for what I needed it for.

Pentlands Backpackers Hostel

Auckland, New Zealand
80%

A good hostel located in a suburb of Auckland (Mt. Eden. The city centre is an hours walk or 10 minute bus ride away). There is a large supermarket and several high streets of shops close by. Facilities are excellent, clean and tidy. Pentlands offers a very different and more laid back hostel experience compared to the larger backpacker hostels in the city. Very much depends on what you're after, but my stay at Pentlands was very nice indeed.

Khaosan Immjai

Bangkok, Thailand

A well-run hostel that has some excellent facilities. It is very clean and all feels very new. Staff are excellent and always helpful. Rooms are big, beds very comfortable and lockers big enough for backpacks and other valuables. The only slight knock I can mention for this place is the location. It is 5 minutes away from Khao San Road and the Grand Palace, which is great, but a fair walk/ride away from Bangkok's other more central districts.

Mr.Jack Guesthouse

Chiang Mai, Thailand
71%

Enjoyed my stay here - it is a nice guesthouse located just outside the Old City's north gate. I'll start by saying that I would reccommend it, and I would also happily stay there again. However, it could be made so much better though with just a couple of improvements. It is only a new place but doesn't feel it. It is cleaned daily, but not thoroughly enough and doesn't always feel clean. With only one receptionist it also feels understaffed at times in the main reception.

Superb hostel. Well-deserving of its many hostelling awards. Facilities are great, and made all the better for the staff who are outgoing but committed to providing an excellent service. Food and drinks are good quality and reasonably priced, rooms are clean and big with lockers provided, and the location is pretty ideal, close to Bangla Road and Patong Beach. Congratulations guys - and keep up the great work. Highly reccommended.

+ Really nice hotel that is perfectly located on the edge of Haad Rin, and a 5-minute walk away from the action. + Facilities are great, clean. The swimming pool is a nice touch and something you won't find at many other places in Haad Rin. + Staff are friendly and helpful, providing breakfast during Full Moon periods.

Khammany Inn Hostel

Luang Prabang, Laos

+ Dorm bed (in a clean room), locker and breakfast all included. + Arranged both a day trip to Kuang Si waterfall and also my drop-off to the airport with no issues. - Not a major issue for me, but I personally felt 16-beds was too many for one dorm. Especially at the price, which you could pay for say, an 8-bed dorm elsewhere. - The bathroom/toilet area was two floors down, and a fair walk from the dorm. Was also very cold down there.

Lovely hotel. Has a certain charm? Quiet (or was when I was there?) but very Laos and laid-back in its atmosphere. Only one-staff member spoke English whilst I was there, but this didn't cause any problems whatsoever (if anything was quite refreshing!). Booked my bus ticket to Vientiane at reception with no problems. They also do various other trips incl. to 4,000 islands. Not an awful lot to do in Pakse itself - the receptionist admitted as much - but this provided me with a great stay..

+ Very well-run hostel with friendly staff. Free pick-up from the airport included. They also arranged a tuk-tuk for my trip to Angkor and also a drop-off at the airport. + Good atmosphere to the common area out front, with pool table and small beer bar. + Good value for money. Dorms were clean and very much adequate for your standard backpacker. Lockers also provided.

Dont tell Mama

Sihanoukville, Cambodia

I'm far from a fussy traveller & loathe leaving negative reviews! However, a number of issues here: - Staff were disinterested in serving guests, more occupied with their own lifestyle behind reception - Lock on my door did not work and, with the overall style of the cabins, did not feel secure - I wasn't told anything about the alarm system, causing embarrassment one evening when I set it off - Otres Beach is a 10-min ride away from town centre (or anything!). Tuk-tuks thus charge a premium

+ Extremely friendly staff who learned my name the evening I arrived and greeted me by name every day I was there. I was quite badly sick during my time there too; they were extremely kind and caring. + Bar area provides food and drinks at reasonable prices and is a comfortable place to hang out. Overall nice atmosphere. + Good value for money - rooms are clean, tidy, and have lockers (strange lockers, which are more cages and therefore see-through, which is odd, but lockers nonetheless!)

Khoi Hostel

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

+ Excellent hostel. Big, spacious dorms with lockers. + Perfectly located within reasonable distance of everything you want/need to be near. - Only a minor quibble. Full of friendly people, but, a few tables and chairs for breakfast aside, no common room or lounge area. I appreciate that this is something fewer hostels seem to have these days, though, and it isn't always easy to factor them in, especially in cities as densely built as HCM.
