After being a little unsure about whether staying in Rocinha would be safe, we were so glad we made the decision to stay here. Obi is a fantastic host, who took us to local parties, and his mum is a great cook! it was so nice to have a home cooked meal after traveling for so long. The dorm room has (good) aircon and an unbeatable view! We felt welcome and safe the entire time. Rocinha guesthouse gives you a chance to see a side of life other hostels don't, and we would definitely come back!
This hostel was so bad that after 5 minutes we went looking for another hostel to stay in. The 10 bed room had an exceptionally useless fan at one end of the room that provided no relief from the extreme temperatures made worse by the fact that it was an attic. The lockers were tiny. If you need to use the 1 bathroom you must traverse down a incredibly steep staircase, which we could imagine would be fun in the dark. The final straw however was a curfew on showers. 11 PM. Never seen that before
This hostel was amazing, one of the best we have stayed in. Andres the owner knew Montevideo so well and was able to recommend something for every taste. Recommendations of restaurants, cultural events, day trips and parties were all spot on. All of the staff went above and beyond to make Montevideo one of our favorite cities so far. More like staying at friends place than a hostel. We both spent a few nights out the front chatting with the occasional guitar rif from Andres.
Awesome place with really funky graffiti all over the walls. The bar was a good place to meet people and the staff are all knowledgeable and helpful. We stayed in the private room and it was big enough to spread out a bit. Ugi's (pizza) was the best recommendation for cheap food ever. Would defiantly recommend.
