Amazing hostel - highly recommended if you're looking for an affordable stay in Old Quarters, with access to good local street food (it's right on a food street), clean beds and dorms, and privacy when you need (they have curtains for every single dorm bed). The only slight minus is that the hostel is almost at the edge of the Old Quarters, and there isn't really a common area where you can hang with other guests (there is a dining area, just not the same). Great staff too (thanks Victor)!

It's more of hostel than a home stay - but the staff are always on hand to help arrange for a stay in one of the village homes. A little outside of Sapa Town - but nothing a mototaxi can't handle. In the surrounding Ta Van village, you can easily take a trek/hike to enjoy the scenery and have a good workout. Staff are amazing too (especially Jon and Martin) - always ready and on-hand to help with any requests you may have! Great experience overall!

Definitely recommended! Great location, good view of the lake, great cooks who whip up a hearty meal every night, and friendly staff who make you feel at home. Thanks for a great few nights. :) *The male staff should stop telling people the ferry to Varenna leaves every 20mins. It does not.

Well located and complete with basic amenities for a hostel. Wifi only works in common area one level below the rooms. My room had a really stale smell. Didn't hear or encounter bed bugs so I guess that's good.

Directions to the hostel can really be improved. Facilities (kitchen, bathroom, chill out area) are good, except for the wifi which is quite unstable for mobile devices. Would have paid less for a similar hostel, but good in general.

Ostello Corniglia, Cinque Terre, Italy

Female staff in the morning was really helpful and friendly, unlike the other male staff working the night shifts. You've been warned about the location, €2 one-way shuttle or 365 steps and 20mins 'hike' up. In the middle of 5 villages, so really great for exploring Cinque Terre. If you need anything the grocery store by the bus stop is really expensive, get them instead in Monterosso. No hostel atmosphere but nice. Lockout not an issue since you should be out exploring anyway! Recommended.

Great location and pretty good facilities all round. Cleanliness, bad. Makes you wonder what they do during the lock-out apart from changing the sheets. Staff honestly weren't that friendly. Would really help to be more forthcoming and welcoming of guests.

Not the most ideal location but since everything is within walking distance in Florence, that's alright. No hostel atmosphere at all, more like a guesthouse. Not ideal if you're traveling alone. Facilities are good less the internet which was down during my stay. Staff could be more engaging.

BED BUGS. Could have been my previous hostel but when you see the condition of this hostel you will know this has to be it. Just about the only that's good is the location being close to Termini and Colosseum. But there are other better ones nearer Termini. There was a commotion that lasted more than an hour in the middle of the night between the staff and someone else and was really disruptive. No facilities except a bed and bathroom. Wouldn't recommend it.

Location is NOT that close to Termini, and the directions are confusin at best, if not just plain useless. And I'm really trying to be objective here. Staff wasn't welcoming or keen on helping with directions and recommendations. The only 'facilities' to speak of are your bed and the toilets. The 'breakfast' consists of bad coffee, by Italian standards, and a croissant that runs out early. For the price, you can find others at a much better location.

Ideal location for the Vaticano and other attractions on the other side of the river. Not the best hostel, but well worth the money you pay. And Anna (I think that's the name of the blonde girl), was a great staff. Approachable and friendly. Had a pleasant stay.

Really awesome and hospitable staff! Had a wonderful stay even though I was only there for a night (and a few hours before catching my flight out). Away from the hustle and bustle of La Ramblas (you don't have to be there if you're backpacking anyway). Definitely recommended.

Glad I chose this hostel. Ended up staying for a few nights longer than expected. All the facilities you need for a good stay, nice chill out area, great activities. And Valentina was a great host! Friendly, approachable and she recommended that I visit Granada (now it's my favorite destination in Spain). Definitely worth it.

Yes! Porto Hostel, Porto, Portugal

One of the main reasons why Porto is my favorite destination in Portugal! Friendly staff, good amenities, really safe (you use a RFID wrist tag to lock your drawer), well located, and of course where I met other fun travelers. Walking tour by Marcos was excellent! Had a good chat with him, was recommended to a cheap and good food places and really enjoyed the tour. All in, highly recommended!

Hostel with good staff, great location, free breakfast and a nice chill out area. Gets a little noisy especially in the middle of the night given how the door works, but not something you wouldn't expect from a hostel. Breakfast was definitely a plus too.
