The Attic Backpackers, Auckland, New Zealand

The location is great-right in downtown Auckland, but the location of the hostel is odd. You have to go through the back service elevator to get up the 5th Fl. SUPER annoying if someone doesn't close the door to bring the elevator down. The rooms were also FREEZING as the hostel literally used to be an attic, so there's no heating in rooms-no joke! The owners need to stop being cheap and upgrade the heating. Auckland isn't warm in the winter and relying on old school heat bottles is ridiculous!

Overall interesting concept, but my major gripe was the "heating" (or lack thereof). The rooms were SO COLD; I might as well have been outside! The staff said the heat came through the pipes at night, but they were stone cold when I went to bed and when I woke. I literally slept in 2 sweaters, pants and socks, along with two blankets and I was still freezing! They have a little heater 'dish', but it barely emits anything. Maybe summer is OK, but beware winters. They need to upgrade the heating!

I only stayed for one night, but overall, it was a good experience. I came in late from my tour (and the front desk closed), but I emailed them and they left out my key, so no problem there! It was a decent room and close to the 'city' center, which is convenient. The rooms are set up as mini apartments, which is nice, so it doesn't feel like a hotel. I didn't get the try out any of the facilities, but seemed like a nice place. I'd recommend!

Firstly, the location was beautiful - it's right on the lake and it's breathtaking. It can get a bit noisy as it's in the center of town, but it's also very convenient to all the restaurants and places to go out.The beds/linens very comfortable, they included a nice down alternative blanket which was very appreciated because it was freezing in the room! The only downside was there wasn't an inclusive atmosphere - felt cliquish, which isn't great for a solo traveler, but had a good stay anyway.

Very centrally located (literally a street away from the main train station that brings you to the airport). Travel desk right in the hostel which is great. Bathrooms are pretty clean, but the rooms could be a bit cleaner, but nothing horrible. Great free walking tour, that helps you meet new people (a must as a solo traveler) - if not for that, it would've been hard to meet people as there's no pub crawls (there's a bar downstairs they want you to frequent). Overall, definitely recommend!

Stayed in Budapest for three days in a separate 'single' room outside of the hostel. I was upgraded at the last minute as someone decided to stay in my room, so I had a bigger place than what I paid for, which was nice. It was a very clean 3 bed apt in the middle of Pest, very prime location, but it's about an 8 min walk from the hostel, it's a bit isolated. So, you have to walk over to join pub crawls or whatever else is going on. The staff is friendly and its clean, so I'd recommend!

Great hostel in the middle of Prague, with a very welcoming and friendly staff. The rooms are basic, but clean and the environment is GREAT for a solo traveler. There are constant activities going on, but you're not pressured pressured pressured to join like some hostels - but it'll make your experience all the better if you do. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home and the pub crawls, and the group dinners/activities actually in the hostel really help. Definitely recommended!

Overall, I thought it was a good hostel - the location is great and it's kept clean, but the set up of the bar leaves it hard to meet people who are actually staying at the hostel vs. locals who are just coming to the bar to drink and don't even realize there's a hostel above them! Also, each floor is different - my floor's bathroom didn't have a hair dryer, but the floor below mine did - wish there was more consistency, but overall, I'd recommend.

Thank you very much for your review and your stay in our hostel! As for the hair dryer there is one in each female bathrooms or some are available in reception. Take care, we hope to see you soon ;)

Amazing location and great times. Right in the center of Acropolis (can see it from the rooftop bar), you can walk to everything. Most everyone is welcoming and traveling alone, so a very "more the merrier" type attitude. The happy hour specials, great people and the Grecian bartender that taught about 20 of us two different grecian line dances made it hilarious. The one major negative is the showers - they're super touchy and spray water EVERYWHERE no matter how hard you try to avoid.
