Great location close to an underground station. Great, friendly, multilingual staff. Good wifi, not the best but does the job. Especially liked the privacy curtains in the dorm rooms - a simple touch that gives you your own space when you need it. Great common space to meet people. Didn't use the bar or restaurant so can't comment - though I heard good things. A pleasant stay.

A fun and lively hostel. Helpful, friendly staff. Rooms far enough from the bar that you don't HAVE to party every night. Good tour options, activities, etc. The tango show is great. Good facilities. Hot showers, good wifi (downstairs only, but the hotel next door has free wifi you can access from some rooms upstairs!). Great location - walking distance to most places, and by a subway station too. My first and last stop of 6 months travelling South America... Seemed like closure!

Wifi was pretty bad, but that's my only complaint - and it always worked, it was just difficult finding a spot with a connection! Place is beautiful, staff friendly, atmosphere good and location excellent. A good place to stay overall.

Nice enough stay. Atmosphere is a little clicky and non-inclusive. But if you force your way past it you're ok. Wifi is terrible. And it's noisy - there is always a party downstairs and the doors may as well not exist as far as noise cancellation goes. But it is a beautiful place, with good common areas, and in a good location. Overall it depends what you're looking for! I had a pleasant enough stay.

Relatively comfortable rooms/beds if not amazing. Good location for the beach, but the town centre is a fair way away. Great location for the bus terminal, though. Lovely staff, helpful and friendly. Good value overall.

A comfortable hostel. Was a bit unlucky with rude inconsiderate roommates, so didn't get much sleep - but that's just my stay, not the hostel. Good facilities, wifi, etc, fairly comfortable beds, a friendly atmosphere, and a good location make this a decent place to stay. Staff are very friendly, though if you don't speak Portuguese or Spanish, it could be difficult for you. Sure you'd get by, though - they're friendly and helpful regardless, and I witnessed non-native speakers doing alright!

I had a great stay here. The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful, the location is good - very close to one beautiful beach, within walking distance of others, and near to shops, etc... the food and restaurant are great, as is the free sunset caipirinha... Atmosphere here is just perfect, and facilities good, too. The view is amazing! Only downside is all the stairs - but it keeps you fit, at least!

Nice hostel, friendly, helpful staff, relatively comfortable beds, and sufficient bathroom facilities and wifi. Location isn't perfect but is close to two metro stations so easy to get around. São Paulo itself is just a big city, really - good if you have time to search or the best bits, but if you just have a day or two, stick to staff's advice of things to do - or you'll never find anything!!

Love this place - I was very, very sad to leave. Atmosphere is great, all the staff are really friendly, location is perfect, and they offer a number of different tours, which are all really good. Beds are not te most comfortable but won't hinder a night's sleep - and are aimed at the elimination of bed bugs, which is never a bad thing! Good facilities and wifi (though a couple more bathrooms would be good, maybe?)... Overall a brilliant stay, in my favourite city of South America so far!

Nice enough place to stay. Friendly staff although there is a language barrier there - owner only speaks Portuguese. But friendly. Workers there at the moment so quite loud (but that won't be forever). Good breakfast, not bad location. Comfortable stay.

I love this place. Mainly because of the French couple who run it - they're so lovely, helpful, welcoming and accommodating. Hostel is nice, facilities good - one of the best showers I've had in SA, and beds comfy. Location could be better but withing walking distance to the centre, supermarket, banks etc. Stay here. Seriously. You'll love it.

Staff are helpful, location is good (nice walk to 3 borders). Good facilities. Reliable wifi. Decent enough breakfast though nothing special. Generally a good stay! They can arrange your tours to the falls - don't be tricked into thinking you have to do the safari or nautical trips - it's not an either/or, you can just pay entrance and walk around! The boat is fun though. But you will get soaked to the skin - despite any amount of waterproofing. Bring spare clothes and shoes. A good stay!

Fantastic stay here. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Especially pregnant lady I'm sorry I can't remember the name of. A great location in a beautiful place. Runs tours to playa Blanca, the Rosario islands, and elsewhere, which are great. Just a brilliant atmosphere. Good facilities, reliable wifi, fans in rooms and one room with air con... They even gave us free iced lemonade every day when we came in out of the heat! Lovely place.

I had a great time, here, and would definitely return. Close to the metro which is a fast and easy way to get around the entire city. They can sort tours for you - I've been told the walking tour is brilliant but didn't have a chance. I did take their tour to Guatape - which was absolutely brilliant - go if you can. Good facilities, good atmosphere, close to shops - a great place to stay in Medellin!

A nice enough stay. DESPITE: the guy on reception generally didn't have a clue what he was doing when checking in or out, or when finding rooms. And there are nowhere near enough showers for guests (two in the whole hostel). And the wifi was unreliable. And they only have space for 4 people in the kitchen, so you have to wait in a queue if you want breakfast. However it is comfy, with a quirky style and friendly German shepherd dog, and a great location! A nice enough stay despite the rest.

Brilliant stay here. The staff, a brother and sister, are fantastic, and so welcoming. They took us out to a bar and also threw a birthday party for travellers during my stay. And go through the best places to visit, where's safe and where's dodgy, etc. not the best location but it's not too far into the centre of town, and taxis are cheap if it's ridiculously hot. A great hostel, with great people.

A good hostel, with a phenomenal view from the terrace. I would dispute it being 'the best hostel in Ecuador' - it definitely isn't - but it's still a really good stay, worth it for the view, the dinners (which promote a good atmosphere) an the travel agent downstairs - which IS the best I've come across... They're really helpful and will help you sort tours to many different places, including the jungle, cloud forest and volcano. Wifi is good - on the terrace it's turned off at 6pm.

I adore this place. My favourite by far in all of South America, hostel-wise. The place is gorgeous, quiet, with private beach access and brilliant staff and atmosphere. It charm is that's it's in the middle of nowhere - so you do need to travel to Puerto Lopez for things like ATMs - but it's easy to get there by bus or hitching. Brilliant stay.

A pretty little hostel. Pay attention to directions section as most taxi drivers won't know where it is. No lockers for your things. Could be in a better location. BUT it is close to shops and the mall if you need anything or food, a 10 min taxi drive from the city centre ($5) the staff and travel desk are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is one of the best I've had. Wifi reliable.

I really didn't like it here. And it's nothing to do with the hostel itself. It's impressive for a hostel, more like a resort, with pool, bar, gardens and hammocks, etc. they guard the main door fiercely but fail to realise nobody guards the beach entrance, so it seems a little pointless. But I don't like it. It's too much. Everyone is wasted constantly, which is fine for a night, but longer? No. It's the people here that I would tend to avoid.

I love this place. Love it! The rooms are nothing special but give you everything you need. The breakfasts on offer are brilliant but not included. Wifi is reliable. Location is excellent. Surf school is better than most with great instructors. But really - it's the atmosphere. You can't help but feel at home, comfortable and relaxed, and everyone is so, so friendly. I didn't want to leave. I love this place!

Very nice - not as pretty as the one in Cusco but then few hostels are. Decent security, wifi, etc. Pretty good food. Good location in miraflores - safer than Central Lima but it is a bit of a trek. Lovely staff, decent rooms, and a good atmosphere. Go see the fountains!

An enjoyable stay - it's a party hostel - expect nothing else and you won't be disappointed. Not a place to go to relax. But the atmosphere is good. The travel agent is good and helpful. The location is perfect. And the food is tasty. Don't need much more! My iPod was stolen as I slept - but that's more of a reflection of the people who were staying in my dorm than it is of the hostel.

Great stay here. Really helpful, friendly staff. Great location, facilities and food. Helpful in finding the right travel agent to book colca treks, and will let you leave your luggage, too. Marlon's House Puno

Puno, Peru

Perfectly adequate but a little dull truth be told - it doesn't have a 'hostely' feel to it - more a multi-storey hotel with dorms. So the atmosphere's a little off. Staff are friendly and helpful enough. Location is okay - a 10 min walk to the plaza. Clean and fairly comfortable, with good facilities, though. Wifi service is decent - not amazing. I will say - one of the best hostel breakfasts I've had as far as variety is concerned. I recommend if you're passing through - not for long stays.

A great stay. Staff are friendly and helpful, lockers provided. Wifi good. Food excellent (possibly the best I've had in Bolivia)... A party hostel but not impossible to get a decent sleep - book in a 6 bed dorm or lower and you're far enough from the bar that you can sleep when you want n party when you want. A brilliant, fun, stay.

One of my favourite hostels so far - a beautiful, beautiful place, all white colonial buildings, with comfortable bedrooms and an excellent location. Breakfast is good. Staff are friendly and helpful. But most importantly, a lovely atmosphere, conducive to meeting friendly people. An outdoor (covered) kitchen, with tables surrounding a grassy yard, and an indoor 'comfy' room. Wifi good and reliable. A really good experience.

Big, so a little lacking in atmosphere. BUT - just stunning. Big, archway surrounded, covered courtyards, wooden window frames, nice dorms. Gorgeous. Staff are good if not amazing, breakfast the same - but it is included! The wifi is good and doesn't fail, though disallowed for skype. Lockers available - use them... People can and do just wander in and out unchecked, and the rooms aren't locked. Mine tour is great, but not if you can't cope with small spaces. Good facilities in a great location.

A clean, comfortable hostel in a good location. The staff are mostly extremely friendly and helpful, with a couple of exceptions (but that's like anywhere, right?)... No lockers, which is a bit of a security risk, especially as there's only one key per room so there's no way of securing your stuff. But bathroom and bedroom facilities are otherwise great. Note: the wifi is terrible - don't count on it. At all. It only works at all 30% of the time, and when it does it's excruciatingly slow!

A lovely, colourful, friendly hostel, with great rooms and common areas. Firstly - those who complain that it's far from the centre are lazy. It isn't - a very short walk - and it's about equidistant to the bus station, which is also great. Jessica seems to be getting a bad rep, but she was absolutely lovely and helpful my entire stay. Only bad points are: no lockers, for the security minded... And the wifi really isn't great at all. But a great, enjoyable stay - recommended.

Brilliant hostel - staff are really helpful and friendly, helping with tours and activities, finding your way around, and taking you out on the town if you fancy it. No problems, and a good stay in a friendly atmosphere. If I come back to Salta, here is where I'll be staying.
