Managua Backpackers Inn, Managua, Nicaragua
6.3
16th Feb 2016

This is a nice place. It has a pool, hammocks, Netflix, kitchen, computers, etc. The staff are also pretty nice and helpful. However it also has some problems: 1: Filthy swimming pool. 2: Very expensive. 3: Lack of atmosphere (though being Managua people often only stay a night so I don't blame the hostel too much). 4: Lack of local information on display (timetables on walls, things to do, etc). 5: No breakfast. Basically nice but too expensive. This is Nicaragua not Chilé or Brazil!

A nice place with a cool atmosphere to meet people. Expensive but you are paying for the pool and social vibe. Needs breakfast included for the price as possible to get private rooms for less money elsewhere in town.

View Property Reply

Thanks for the feedback, we're glad to hear you had a great time here! Regarding the value, it is definitely relative to what you're looking for. There are much cheaper places in town that offer a bed to sleep, but you'll find our prices are quite low compared to the other "social hostels" in town that offer an atmosphere. Keeping up a fun and clean environment is a lot of work! We do currently offer free coffee for all guests and are consistently working on adding new features, including a breakfast soon. We hope to see you again next time you're in San Juan! Best, the Manager, Surfing Donkey Hostel

Really lovely hostel in Wicker Park area of Chicago. Away from the main sites but on the blue line so they are easily accessible. The atmosphere and price makes it a good alternative to the one hostel in downtown (HI). Staff were excellent, especially Meg who was friendly Nd helpful and always had a smile on her face. Recommended.

Lovely place and in a fantastic location for a good price, HOWEVER it is a hotel not a hostel. As such it is all but impossible to meet people. There is no area to hang out, watch TV, play pool etc. Just a crummy breakfast room open at breakfast time. OK for a night or two to do the downtown region, but you will most likely be alone for your stay unless you luck out in the room.

Hello, Thank you for staying with us and for reviewing your stay. I am glad to hear you liked our location and the design but I am sorry to hear you did not have a chance to meet other guests during your trip. I hope this will not prevent you from returning in the future and we are re-evaluating our shared spaces to ensure they are as social as possible. I hope we can see you back again very soon.

A nice enough place but a little out of the centre of the old city. Air con did not work but was fixed. Hot tub on roof was not working and there were no computers to use. Small but nice enough breakfast. OK place but a little expensive for what it was.

Air con only on from 8 or 9 pm every night. Ridiculous. Room had no fans and windows did not fully open. Litterally impossible to stay in without the AC. I was sweating buckets. Made hostel not great as could not chill in room after hot sweaty day outside. Common area tiny and not overly comfortable - metal chairs not sofas etc.

View Property Reply

Hey, sorry that you werent overly happy with your stay in Macondo, this is one of our worst reviews so we do take these things serious. Looking over your past 33 reviews though I see that in about 20 reviews you complain about no free breakfast. When searching for hostels online on the left hand side of the screen you can click FILTER and select FACILITIES then FREE BREAKFAST. If the hostel doesnt offer free breakfast it wont appear and save you the disapointment. At the time of this review no hostels in San Gil are offering Free Breakfasts and in general its not the norm here. I also see that when you do recieve a free breakfast you tend to complain about it. In the future maybe you should look for a cafe with accomodation rather than a hostel as breakfast seems to be very important to you. Enjoy your travels

A nice hostel with nice staff. I would recommend it. Downsides: Only 2 showers and 3 toilets for 17 guests, but this never proved a problem. TV had rubbish picture and very limited channels. No games or DVDs. There was an old computer but it did not seem for guest use. Liked: Nice (if very small) breakfast. Good free WiFi. Nice owners. Reasonable price (for area). Towel included in price. Bit like a home than a hostel - nice.

I would stay here again as it is cheap & in a great location. The negatives for me: Male showers are not cleaned often and smell BAD! I have travelled SE Asia for 11 months and stayed in some crappy hostels that were dirtier by far, but it really bothered me here and is a major let down for a nice place. 10 bed dorm is roomy but has no fans or AC and the window is tiny and does not open to the outside (just a hallway). In the afternoons and evenings this during summer this makes it a sauna.

A nice place in a good location. Only let down by: 1: having no free breakfast (though not many in BB had either) 2: the fact anyone could walk right inside during the day without staying there (security at night much better). 3: the lock on our door not working so anyone could get in. 4: No backpack size lockers in the room. Harsh to give it average value - for BB it is quite good, but I felt giving it good value was too generous. That said I would deffo stay there again.
