This was one of our favourite hostels after over 6 month travelling and 2 months in NZ. Friendly and homely feel in this quiet but welcoming town with beautiful walks. The only slight issue was securtiy as rooms did not have locks, although we had no issues during our stay. We LOVED THE FREE CHOCOLATE PUDDING AND ICE CREAM every night at 8pm mmmmmmm....
Adequate hostel, with a friendly receptionist. Suitable for a brief stay in the town, which itself is quiet.
We loved the family/homely feel of the hostel especially being able to walk bez the dog! Definatly the best hostel we have stayed in in new zealand!
First day we left our room, when we got.back our bags had been ripped open and some moneh taken. We were in the 12 bed dorm on the same level as the laundry so everyone had access to floor and people left door open as it was 'warm' in the room. Staff were very kind and swapped our room for no extra cost and rest of stay was uneventful....sad people stealing from.other backpackers.
Bit grubby and felt un cared for, nothing horrendous but poor value for money compared to others near by. Book early and stay at Ritz instead, slightly further from beach but closer to CBD and a lot.nicer facilities.
Very nice welcoming hostel with a friendly close atmosphere. Both short and long term guests interacted and were aided by helpful staff and get together events organised. Clean and plenty of facilities, although kitchen did get too busy for about 1-2 hours each evening but easy to.work around.
Very helpful staff and travel advice with happy travels rep at reception very helpful. Having the li k makes decisions about future travel easier and keeps.cost of sticking around to.wait for trips and campervan hire down. Friendly atmosphere, with guests given oppotuntiies to socilaise at events out.of hostel or make.own entertainment at hostel.
A very comfortable hostel for such a big city and size of hostel. Staff always helpful and ensuring hostel in clean and safe. Much better and nicer than that coperation across the road with their dodgy lift and small and messy kitchen.
Staff were friendly, but quite clicky between each other amd certain longer term stayers. The rooms were nice and 2/3 we stayed in were clean. Third one wasnt great in bathroom. The kitchen are was tight, often dishes left not cleaned in sink and lack of crockery and cuttlery. More accesible stairs from ground floor would make travel to.lower levels easier. Also advertised events like movie.night don't happen!
Nice hostel in a lovely part of Laos, and would recommend any one to.visit here, stay here and use as a base to go to the Elephant rehab centre. The only negative was the staff membee who checked us in, wasn't that helpful. We wanted to upgrade to a double from dorm beds, but he wouldn't allow us to use the deposit for this. If we uograded then we would loose the deposit we paid for the dorm beds. So out of principle we just stayed as we were.
When we arrived, we got told hey didn't have the room we had booked and paid a deposit for, but could have an upgraded roomof we paid for it (-$1 of the price, but still $3 per night than we had booked). After agreeing we would not pay anymore than agreed in thebooking, the manager reluctantly gave us the room at original price but became defensive furging on rude. He said that we would have to change rooms in the morning, about11. Got kicked out room 2 hours after arriving by a veryrude manager
Only negative waswe couodnt stay an extra night as they were fully booked, but yiu could say that is a positive.
Awsome people, place, beer and swimming pool!
