Clean and quiet and in a good location. Unlike a lot of other hostels, it had no bar area or sense of community - it felt like the guests I talked to were there for a cheap place to stay and were not interested in socialising. Also, check in was difficult as we arrived late and some things hadn't been set up as expected.
Hi Guest Sorry that your stay was not as you expected. We do not advertise to have a bar but we do offer´beer at reception and we have a lounge and a kitchen area to hang out and social. With regards to the guests, we are sorry that you were not able to meet the people you expected, however, we don't think it is fair that this has had an impact on your rating.

This hostel felt very run down and unloved. Staff were rather confrontational and rude. There were a number of longterm guests that had been/were living in the hostel (mixed dorms) for months on end. Each to their own, but it seemed a bit weird. The atmosphere in the communal area was a typical modern hostel: a mortuary of glowing blue faces engrossed in smartphones. Overall it felt like it was decaying and due a knocking down. Beds & linen were clean, as were free towels.

Our stay at Retox was most excellent indeed! A lot of drinking, not much sleep, and absolutely zero cultural outings were had. We pretty much spent 75% of our 4 day stay in Budapest in the hostel bar for one reason or another. The staff are a bunch of partying transients that seems to have washed up at Retox and not found their bearings onwards just yet. This is a great thing! They're all functioning alcoholics and love to suck you into their day-to-day world of debauchery. Top lads & lasses!

A fantastic hostel with a great team of staff. The location is good: very close to the Jewish Square (which has some great pubs and food) and not too far from the main square either (10 mins walk). The hostel has a basement bar and club which is ideal for hanging out and mingling with other guests. Everyone seemed to be happy and open to mixing with oneanother. Though there was a strange solo traveller who was highly dislikable (Hi Alex!). I suspect he's been locked up by now, so don't worry!

Great hostel. Very clean. Extremely friendly, helpful and insightful staff. Lovely to grab a few beers at the lobby and get to know your fellow travellers whilst building plans for the next day.
